South Ogden, Utah, is a small town in Kane County, Utah, United States. It was founded in 1847 by men from the eastern United States on land that had been donated to the Mormon church by Brigham Young. In 1863–1865 during Reconstruction following the American Civil War,, many African Americans served as Union soldiers in South Ogden and Cedar City; these men are generally considered pioneers who helped build southcentral Utah into one of America's fastest-growing regions during this time period. After 1865 whites started moving out of South Ogdenton which contributed significantly to its decline over subsequent decades. The first post office was established at South OgDEN in 1847; however it closed due mostly to lack of customers given that mail service between Cedar City and Salt Lake City was then available only twice per week instead of daily like it is today."Kane County History" (accessed 9/1/15).
