South Jordan, Utah is a city in Southern Utah that was founded in 1902 by David W. Craig and his family. South Jordan is the seat of Logan County and is located on the edge of the Wasatch mountains. The population of South Jordan was 9,691 at the 2010 census. It is one of four cities in Utah that are considered "downtown." Downtown South Jordan features several buildings from the 1930s and 1940s which are still used today as businesses or residences. In addition to its downtown core, SouthJordan has several neighborhoods including the University City neighborhood which is home to Brigham Young University-Idaho, BYU-Hawaii, and Weber State University; Midtown which contains many shops and restaurants; Northgate which includes some high-end properties; and Park View which is an unincorporated community located near parkland in south central Logan County. The history of South Jordan began with David W. Craig who settled on a 640 acre tract of land east of Logan City in 1902. He named his new town after himself, David Winters Craig (1863-1942). The town rapidly grew due to agriculture and mineral discoveries made within its borders throughout the early 20th century. By 1916,Craig had built a two story frame schoolhouse with only 10 students attending classes daily because he had been unable to secure funding from local banks for construction of a more substantial building! In 1925, Craig donated 4 acres adjacent to his original town site for use as a public square where residents could meet after workdays or play games during weekends. This square became known as “The Circle” later moved to its current location across Saginaw Street from Craig High School in 1966 when The Summit School District took over operations ofSouthJordanUSD Schools (now called USD 536)
