Grant's Reconstruction Administration, many African Americans relocated to SouthJordan from Arkansas, Missouri and Georgia because they were freed following the American Civil War (1861- 1865). In 1881 when James Fenton became Mayor of SouthJordan he suggested annexing Bearsville which then amounted to around 10% of the total population but no annexation took place because there was not enough political support for it at that time. In 1900 when John Dickson became Mayor after serving two terms as Councilman he annexed much more territory making South Jordan one of largest cities in Utah with over 100 000 residents including numerous suburbs outside its limit established by municipal charter or ordinance rather than through annexation by neighboring municipalities with similar populations like Cedar Rapids or Des Moines which were organized into larger metropolitan areas employing large numbers of workers just beyond their boundaries without any attempt at secession or incorporation within those larger areas resulting in community loss or gain primarily due to economic development opportunities provided by adjacent agricultural production areas surrounding those larger urban cores while smaller towns within their limits experienced decline and stagnation economically although they may have continued to serve as educational institutions for their students living within easy commuting distance along Interstate 15 having access both mainline national high school education/equivalency programs operated centrally while also enjoying excellent retail store options available within walking distance whether inside or outside those shopping centers being attached privately owned commercial districts providing services essential unto those communities such as health care including dental care; restaurants; medical clinics; transportation; banking etc.; all Service Sector businesses are considered Class One Businesses subject only unto taxes paid plus franchise fee where applicable

South Jordan, Utah is a town in Davis County, Utah, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. South Jordan is part of the Ogden–Clearfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in this area were French Canadians who arrived in 1847. They named the land for Saint-Jean-d'Angélique (John the Baptist), which was located about south of present day South Jordan. In 1850, Brigham Young ordered the founding of a new Mormon settlement called Centerville on Mount Carmel east of present day Loganville. This community was established by stereographers and other surveyors working for LDS leader John Taylor as a wintering ground for missionaries. Centerville had no permanent residents until 1872 when members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints organized what became known as Cedar City to house their missionary families and base their services near Cedar City's busy transportation hub on Route 816 (now I-385). Cedar City grew rapidly and by 1880 it boasted a population of 5,500 people with its own post office and school system. By 1990, however, center city's growth had stalled due to automobile travel preferences and competition from newcomers who erected homes around Interstate 15 and other roads leading into town; downtown business declined while resident incomes remained relatively stagnant throughout that period. A representative from Centerville met with LDS President George Albert Smith in 1886 to request assistance in developing an area adjacent to Cedar City that would be designated as Centerville Township; within two years this request had been granted with boundaries defining Centerville Township north as well as east side extending all the way to Interstate 15 between Sandy Mountain Road/Route 816 (now State Route 84) and Ruben Fork Creek/US Highway 191 (now State Route 84).
