A Mrs. Kapp built them for her children to shoot at during summertime. In 1892, James Dickey erected a stand on the west side of town and began selling targets. He also built a shooting range nearby which continued to be used until the early 1920s. In 1915, Mr. Hamer opened his own business, Hamer's Shooting Company, which manufactured and sold target holders for use at public events such as Fourth of July parades and fairs. In 1924, Mr. Hamer donated his entire stock of target holders to the Saratoga Springs Historical Society (now known as Saratoga Springs Museum & Library). That same year, Mr. Waddell erected a stand on the north side of town near State Road 20 (now sidewalk) with an outdoor firing range available to members only from May 1 through October 15th each year!
