In 1910, Saratoga Springs annexed the neighboring town of Ivins, which had been founded in 1881 by Mormon settlers from Ogden Territory. The annexation created much controversy because Ivins residents were not given the same rights as their new neighbors and they remain semi-squeezed between Saratoga Springs and Salt Lake City to this day. In 1927, Saratoga Springs voters passed an ordinance that banned handguns in the city limits. This law remained in effect until 1933 when it was repealed by Mayor Harry Heineman due to public outcry over gun control measures that he considered unconstitutional. Heineman later said that he did so “in order to bring about repeal of the ordinance through popularly elected officials” rather than relying on government legislation or judicial review. The repeal of handgun prohibition helped spawn the now well-known firearms industry within Saratoga Springs, which has continued to grow since then. Today, firearms are still tightly regulated within the city limits with concealed carry permits only available to residents who are 21 years or older and have a valid driver’s license or state identification card—a rule that has been largely upheld by local courts despite occasional challenges brought against it by anti-gun lobbyists looking to regulate shooting privileges outside of city limits entirely.

When European explorers arrived in this area in 1847, they found many different cultures living here including the Paiute Indians and Shoshoneans. In 1861, John C. Fremont discovered gold near what is now Saratoga Springs while traveling through the region on his Mormon Battalion expedition. This led to a flurry of activity in and around Saratoga Springs as people began searching for more valuable resources. In 1875, Congress passed an act authorizing building a railroad between Salt Lake City and Provo along what is now known as the Mormon Trail. This led to rapid growth in Saratoga Springs as people rushed to find new homes near civilization. By 1900, there were over 5300 residents living here with businesses stretching from downtown to rural areas north of town and east of it. At that time, Saratoga Springs was considered one of America's " economical center."[1] During World War II, many soldiers stationed at nearby Fort Riley took advantage of local amenities such as swimming pools and tennis courts for recreation during their long days off duty or when they needed some peace and quiet away from combat zones.[2] The war also helped spur development around Fort Riley into an active military community that continues today with several parks and educational opportunities available for troops and their families alike.[3] Today, SARATOGA SPRINGSWelcome back!
