The Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre took place on December 14, 2012 and resulted in 20 dead, including 12 children and six adults. Twelve rifles were used in that atrocity. One of these rifles was a Smith & Wesson Model 10 revolver stock that was used by Adam Lanza to kill 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The gunman who committed this heinous act was an individual named Adam Lanza who had acquired the rifle from a friend. It should be noted that no one else was involved in the school shooting other than Lanza himself. This particular rifle stock has been extensively studied by historians as it is a key piece of evidence in the case against him. They determined that it had originally come from Sandy Hook Elementary School where it was used by someone known as “Mr. Holmes” during his time there as a student. The first Europeans to visit what is now Sandy were Mormon pioneers who landed there in 1847 as part of explorations made by Brigham Young and his men looking for a new home for the Saints following their flight from Nauvoo, Illinois. The town was platted in 1857 when Salt Lake City became an organized town under territorial jurisdiction; however it did not become a municipality until 1907 when it was annexed by Ogden City. The original name for Sandy was Auburn Landing because it lay on what later became known as Auburn Creek which ran through downtown Sandy before joining the Jordan River just north of today's Meridian Avenue Bridge. From its inception until 1907, Sandy boomed with business activity due to shipments arriving by boatload from Provo and other nearby towns pleased with what they saw as an excellent opportunity to railroads running right through their midst- something no other town could offer! Businesses included flour mills, breweries and cotton farms along with general storekeepers, livery barns and hotels all clustered together along one main street near today's riverfront parkette! In 1932–33 during President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal program – then still called "the Great Depression" – local businesses took advantage of government largesse to hire hundreds of workers constructing roads and bridges across country during those tough times; among these were many Sandy businessmen like A&P grocery store owner James Matson who donated $10K back then toward improving Main Street between First Avenue South and Second Avenue North! That same year also saw the opening of what would be America’s only ice cream parlor ever built- currently operates as memoriesome Cottonwoods Casino Resort & Spa located just east across I-15 from downtown Salt Lake City proper! Today much like then- many aspects associated with life in Sandy have changed significantly since 2007 including increased access to transportation via buses or bike riding options available almost everywhere throughout town center while even more businesses are sprouting up around town periphery such as pizza places or cupcake shops catering specifically to downtowners/railroad commuters alike making this once sleepy smalltown into something decidedly different than any other US city!
