The area that now includes Sandy was first inhabited by Native Americans, and early settlers were familiar with using firearms for hunting and protection. By 1853, the town of Sandy had been established and began to grow rapidly. At that time, guns were not common in Utah, but they did become more commonplace asporting weapons. Sandy, Utah is a city located in the Wasatch Mountains of south-central Utah. The population was 9,821 at the 2010 census. Sandy is the county seat for Humboldt County. Sandy was founded in 1847 as Fort Bridger by Latter-day Saints Apostle Orson Pratt and his group of Mormons from California. It was named after Commodore George Bridger who had explored the area before and named it Fort Bridger in 1849 on account of its resemblance to an elevated fort he had seen while exploring the Rockies. When Brigham Young became leader of the LDS church in 1857, he renamed Sandy "Salt Lake City" because it would be easier to navigate on maps when placed at the mouth of Salt Lake Canyon (the current site of downtown Sandy). The city's growth began slowly until 1958 when Rex Weisberger erected a power plant on East Center Street that soon generated so much electricity that people startedinterestedinsettling around Sandy. In 1961, they built a new courthouse and other public buildings including a fire station, library, grocery store and park. That year also saw construction of Sandy's first high school which opened in 1963 with grades 7 through 12; administration building followed two years later. In 1978, Pioneer High School opened its doors to students grades 9 through 12; this school served as the first comprehensive high school operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) in east central Utah outside Provo. A major reason for improving infrastructure during this time were budget cuts made by then Mayor Cecil Barcham following his victory over incumbent Tom Hansen in mayoralty races both in 1984 and 1988; these cuts resulted from continued economic Development slump that had begun impacting eastern Utah shortly after US President Ronald Reagan took office promising significant relief to struggling communities across America due to his "New Jerusalem" initiative beginning July 1st 1981 In 1992 during mayoral campaign incumbent Bob Bell faced Republican challenger Norm Rice; Bell won easily with 54% of the vote against Rice's 38%. During Bell's second term as mayor some $30 million worth of projects were funded totaling 553 projects which renovated or replaced more than 130 homes including 31 schools and 52 businesses/ INSTALLED 49 new street lights thruout neighborhoods! Sandy, Utah is a city in Kane County, Utah, United States. The population was 553 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Kane County. As of the 2010 census, the city's population was 624. The first humans to live in Sandy were Paiute Indians who hunted and collected game in what is now Sandy Valley and other areas around it during the mid-19th century. In 1847 Mormon pioneers arrived from Missouri on their way to Salt Lake City; they named this new land "Sandy." The first post office was established in 1851, and by 1870 there were over 20 businesses operating here. In 1907 a railroad was built through town; it became known as the "Sandy Line" because much of it ran near Sandy beaches on both sides of the river. By 1912 most citizens had moved away and only a few hundred people remained in town when World War I began. In 1917 President Woodrow Wilson issued an executive order creating federal lands within Kane County for military purposes; these parcels included about half of present-day Sandy. The city was not given any land but instead received water rights from nearby Springdale Creek which gave its residents access to potable water for cooking and drinking (though still without piped water). After years of negotiation between local leaders and federal officials, construction began on what would become known as Miracle Mountain Dam in 1923; once completed all but 1 percent of contemporary Sandy consisted of agricultural land irrigated by MWD's hydropower plants today still standing just north of downtown along US 62/US 421A., including nearly all homes east of Interstate 80/I-81 (& Little Cottonwood Canyon), & across Genesee River valley leading up to Bryce Canyon National Park until recently unoccupied except for some military storage sites eastward circa milepost 381 south thereof today part Of Anadarko Regional Park West wind Ranch) As dictated by Executive Order 13214 (the same order that created Bears Ears National Monument), large numbers (>90%) portions or entire communities inside Bears Ears National Monument boundaries—including much rural housing within park boundaries—were ordered destroyed outright pursuant to section 4(b) thereof due to lackOf confidence that future generations would be able to maintain those community values & historic cultural resources’ Without community input or oversight no such orders could have been made! One may ask how Obama could know what “community values” would exist 50 years later when he has NOTHING TO DO WITH OUR COMMUNITIES anymore? Community input had already been gone missing during his predecessors terms! There are many stories about how Hurricane Katrina turned out hereabouts: one includes floods common after storms like Irma & Maria sweep through area late fall 2016 causing mudslides downstream compounding problem caused by heavy rains early spring 2017 making faster flow then normal rivers headwater systems creating creeks running into mainstems flooding low lying areas wide open spaces with animals trapped inside canals etc.— basically every story has something going for it weather permitting! Historians will continue telling more STORIES until everyone learns why things happened & learns from our mistakes…… lesson learned time & again !!!) It wasn't long before development started moving forward rapidly here too: business owners set up shop constructing homespun cotton girders used commonly elsewhere& piping goods downriver so farmers could get cornmeal products out onto tables where families gathered nightly underStars above while listeningto music or watching Animal Farm play outside their windows….. Forerunners to homebuilders likee us today……………………………………….. A few decades later electricity came along providing power for lights TVing autos playing mp3s at home ect….
