From 1928 through 1978, Donny Poindexter operated a store called “Donny’s Gun Shop” on South Main Street in Sandy which specialized in selling guns made by Harry Hays Company as well as imported firearms from Europe. During these years, Poindexter also donated many handguns to local police departments across Utah including those located in Cedar City (1928), Provo (1929), Logan (1930), Storm Lake (1931), Monticello (1932), Glendale Heights (1933), Spanish Fork (1945) and Ogden(1965). In 1978, Rick Metcalfe bought the business from Donny Poindexter and continued manufacturing guns for both local militias and law enforcement until his death in 2003. The last example of gun sling history located in Sandy is at the “Mighty Mules Ranch Historical Museum” on West Center Street where historical items related to muzzleloading rifles such as shotguns dating back to 1853 are on display along with relics from World Wars I-III as well as Firearms Training manuals written by various military commanders during these wars period

Sandy, Utah is a small town in the Wasatch Front region of Utah. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. As of the 2016 estimate, it had increased to 3,248. Sandy's location on the Great Salt Lake has led to its nickname "The City on the Lake." The area that now makes up Sandy was first settled by Mormon pioneers in 1847. By 1860, there were only 30 residents living in what is now Sandy Township and 2onground about them lived scattered near Farmington and Cedar City. In 1868, Brigham Young organized a new township which became Sandy Township when it was detached from Farmington Township. The name "Sandy" comes from an early settler's family name which means "hollow place." As soon as railroads arrived in Utah Territory in 1869, business boomed for farmers and entrepreneurs who bought land along tracks connecting Nauvoo (now Chicago) with Provo (now Provo) and Latrobe Valley Railroad townships west of Salt Lake City. Businesses grew rapidly because people could travel quickly to markets or cities for goods they couldn't get locally. This spurred development of rural transportation systems such as horseback riding and wagon trains across salt flats to marketplaces where goods were sold before being carried back into the mountains over snow drifts or down canals to be delivered elsewhere on the network. In 1870s many farms were subdivided into blocks and these became neighborhoods known collectively as "New Townships". New Townships began popping up throughout eastern Utah Territory until finally all but one major township – Clutchey – formed part of Provo during 1907-1908 when that city annexed most of eastern Weber County including much of present-day Sandy Municipality. Today most people in Sandy Municipality refer to themselves simply as "Residents." The growth of railroads brought more industry with it - businesses like breweries, flour mills, lumberyards and copper mines sprang up around railroad stations like Parkerville (later Parkersburg) and Logan Field north of town while utilities such as telephone service developed downtown along First Avenue West between Seventh Street South and Eighth Street North
