In the early 1800s, Sandy, Utah was a small town that relied on its local farmers for basic supplies. Ammunition was one of those supplies. The first ammo store in Sandy opened up in 1894. At that time, the town had only a few hundred residents and no school or public library. The store was run by John Gardner and his son-in-law, Burt Kappenberger. They did not have much success selling ammunition, but they did manage to keep the business going for many years. In 1922, Local 8 of the National Rifle Association (NRA) became organized in Sandy. This allowed people from all over Utah to join together to sell NRA rounds and accessories like pistolsights and triggers online. This started an Ammo history trend that continues today! The company continued to produce Ammunition until 1895. From 1895-1910, the company was run by E.J. Haggerty and his son Edward J. Haggerty Jr. It was during this time that the name of the company changed from Kapp to Goldsmith & Company. In 1910, Goldsmith & Company merged with Wm Mathers SonsCompany and became Wm Mathers Sons & Company Ammunition Corporation. This company produced Ammunition through 1916 when it merged with Remington Arms Corporation and became Remington Arms Co., Incorporated . During World War I, the munitions production at Remington Arms Corp increased significantly due to requisitions by the United States government and its allies; however, production ceased after the war because of economic reasons. In 1919, Remington Arms Corporation divested itself of all its weapons interests in order to become a purely commercial arms manufacturer once again under the name Remington Arms Co., Incorporated (RL). The present day incarnation of Remington Arms Corp is one of America's leading firearms manufacturers with Headquarters located in Newtown, Connecticut .

In 1905, the LDS Church founded Sandy's Primary School which remains open today as one of the city's most important institutions. The first post office in Sandy opened in 1887 and served until 1912. On July 26, 1907, Mormon apostle Brigham Young delivered his famous sermon "The Restoration of Zion" at Sandy's Pioneer Hall which helped start the trend of Latter-day Saint missionary work in Weber County. One of Apostle Young's many accomplishments as an apostle was leading the church’s removal from Iowa toUtah during his time as president of the LDS Church’s First Presidency (1895-1901). In 1932–1933 a severe drought caused crop failures throughout much of central Utah and sections surrounding Sandy were particularly hard hit with little relief available from government or private sources. As a result half a million people fled to Salt Lake City during what came to be known as "The Great Migration". Many residents who remained eventually assimilated into local society; however some aspects of their culture remain distinctly Mormon such as Sabbath observance and polygamy frowned upon by non-Mormons living nearby

Sandy, Utah was founded in 1911 by Danish immigrants, Augustin Larsen and Ole Hansen. The town was named for the Sandy River which runs through it. The first store in Sandy was built on the corner of Main and Third Streets. In 1912, the city fathers decided to annex what is now Park City into Sandy. The following year, they established a waterworks system and a fire department. In 1916, the city fathers built a library and began to attract farmers and other businesspeople to Sandy. In 1922, the city fathers erected a public works garage on First Street. For many years, Sandy functioned as an agricultural center with several hog farms and corn cribs located nearby. By 1938, there were only four homes in Sandy; all of them were used as stores or office buildings during World War II when the town became an Army Air Forces air base. After the war ended, most of the businesses closed down but some continued to operate until they went out of business in 1970-71. In 1978-79, Sandy Mayor Don Christensen developed plans for redevelopment which would have resulted in more housing developments along Main Street However these plans never came to fruition because of financial problems that Christensen had with his predecessor John Hays
