Ritchie started what would become the longest continuously running business in the town- they manufactured Leica scope tubes for hunting rifles and shotguns from their home on Main Street until their retirement in 1995. Today, rifle scopes are still being produced by CVRoy’s successor company- Weaver Optics Inc.- which has been manufacturing optics since 1978!

In 1868, Brigham Young organized a wagon train from Missouri that stopped in Roy to trade goods with Native Americans. That same year, Mormon missionaries arrived in Roy to proselytize for Jesus Christ. The first church building was erected in 1870. In 1902, when Salt Lake City was founded as an independent city, Roy became part of that city and ceased to be an agricultural center. However, because it remained within commuting distance of downtown Salt Lake City until after2000, it has continued to serve as both a cultural and economic hub for eastern Utah and northwestern Arizona. The growth of online shopping has also contributed toRoy's recent resurgence as an ecommerce center; some 60% of sales here are made online rather than through traditional brick-and-mortar stores

Following World War II, Roy experienced rapid growth when the United States national debt became unmanageable and the government offered subsidies to farmers in order to keep production high. The town continued to grow during the postwar period until it reached its current size in 1987.
