From 1868 to 1994, Roy, Utah had the dubious distinction of being the only city in America to have a law that regulated and taxed firearms. The Gun Owners of America (GOA) organization lobbied for passage of this ordinance, which was finally passed in 1914. The ordinance made it a felony to possess any firearm without a federal permit. It also required all handguns be registered with the City Clerk’s office and held on an individual’s premises at all times. Since its enactment, Roy has seen some high-profile shootings in its history. In 1978, two gunmen entered the city hall building and opened fire on city employees before shooting themselves dead inside. Two years later, three men were shot outside of a convenience store after refusing to give up their firearms. In 1984, 15-year-old Gerry Manson shot and killed four people at Sandy Hook Elementary School before fatally Shooting himself. The GOA organized protests against gun control laws in subsequent years but nothing ever changed until 1992 when Utah Proposition 8 became controversial because it proposed limiting marriage equality to between one man and one woman

The first post office in Roy was established on November 6, 1870, and operated for two years; it was renamed Wasatch after the nearby Wasatch Mountains. The first store in town opened on Main Street on October 4, 1872. In 1875, the railroad reached Roy and freight traffic increased rapidly; by 1880 there were six stores and three hotels in town with a population of 1,500 residents. By 1886 the population had risen to 12 settlers and four businesses with a total payroll of $3 per day including teachers employed at Brigham Young University (BYU). In 1902 Mormon apostle Orson Pratt called a general conference at LDS church headquarters located in Salt Lake City which directed all temple work eastward into Utah Territory; this event led to the founding of Logan Airport near present-day Murray Hill as well as other new towns such as Spanish Fork and Tooele across Kane County boundaries within Utah Territory due to overpopulation concerns caused by LDS Church relocation efforts during that time period. On July 15th 1907 local businessman Wm Jenson donated land southeast of present day downtownRoy to establish what became known as "Jenson Park." This donation marked one stage in an effort by local businessmen to improve physical education opportunities for their citizens along with developing various other agricultural interests adjacent to what would later become downtownRoy while also serving as an early introduction of cultural activities associated with the LDS religion such as carpenters' meetings open air theaters etc., which quickly became popular among non-LDS members throughout much of eastern Utah during that era following similar experiences enjoyed by individuals residing eastside San Francisco prior to its 1906 Earthquake/Tsunamakee Catastrophe
