The history of ammunition in Roy, Utah can be traced back to at least 1887. That year, the first shot was fired from a cannon located on the eastern edge of town. The town's founder, A.J. Rounds: Rounds come in all shapes and sizes including those designed specifically for revolvers such as .38 Special hollowpoints (HPs) and 9mm Luger chambered rounds (.40 S&W). They contain lead, powder, tungsten carbide balls (CGBs), iron filings, aluminum shrapnel fragments (FRAGs), magnesium blocks (), nitroglycerin (), ULCAN stubbs (), gasses ()) on top which will detonate upon impact with an object). Different calibers will produce different numbers of Fragments composing Round Life (). The larger caliber rounds like .380ACP generate more Fragments per Round () while the smaller calibers like 5mm Parabellum generate fewer Fragments () because they eject all their fragments prior to impact
The Roy Gunnery & Ammunition Company was established in 1892. The company manufactured firearms, ammunition and explosives. In 1916, the company merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to become Winchester-Roy Firearms Corporation. In 1949, the company became a subsidiary of Winchester Ammunition Company.

The first store in Roy was built by Hyrum Dever and operated for six months before it burned down. 3 more stores were built between 1872 and 1875 but all were destroyed by fire or the local weather conditions. In 1876, the first school in Roy opened with 12 students. It would be closed due to lack of funds until 1903 when a new building was constructed which still serves as the town's primary school today. The town had several mills until 1906 when they closed due to low demand from the local farmers. However, starting in 1916, Roy started receiving shipments of flour from Salt Lake City which has made the town an important center for agricultural production for many years now. In addition to its role as a major economic center for Roy, it also served as home to several Mormon pioneers who arrived here during the Gold Rush period of western Utah history. These pioneers include Brigham Young and his family who erected their original farmstead here in 1874; George Atherton who became one of the most prominent attorneys in Roy after marrying LDS girl Emma Smith there in 1880; Lorenzo Snow who served two terms as president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS church) before becoming a missionary throughout much of central America; and Parley P Pratt who helped lead an exodus from Nauvoo, Illinois which began on April 6, 1850 and culminated at Great Salt Lake Valley Crossing on July 26th.[1]
