From 1913 to 1917, Roy served as headquarters for several Navajo tribal organizations held meetings there including their supreme council and general assembly. In 1925, when Donald Sorenson arrived from Omaha he set up his business lumber yards east of where Roy now stands and began shipping logs westward across Lake Powell into Arizona Territory for sale to miners and other loggers who were working the Butte-Dakota Mountains then being mined for coal and other minerals becoming one of many communities established along this route during the early 20th century due to easy access to timber and mining supplies available through federal riversand lakes connecting eastern Colorado with central Arizona
