In 1892, in Riverton, Utah, a man named John H. Stevens began making rifles with a new scope design. His rifle scopes were the first sights to be made using an optically correct lens system and a modern mount. The success of his riflescope designs led him to establish his company Stevens Rifle Scope Corporation in 1902. The company was based in Riverton until 1954 when it relocated to Mountain View, California. In 1954, the company moved back to Utah and continued manufacturing rifle scopes there until their closure in 1978. The early riflescopes used lenses that were fashioned from mirror-like glass or plastic and had parabolic objectives designed to bear on a target at close range. Lenses were also made with adjustable magnification levels and could be removed for cleaning or storage. Many of these early riflescopes are still used today by hunters around the world as well as military snipers and longbow shooters who use them for precision shooting at distances up to several hundred yards!

The primary cultural attractions in Riverton are its antique cars and trucks dealership, operated by Jimmie Dean Chevrolet; its annual hayride/carriage ride (held on Easter weekend); its arts & crafts festival; and its Quaker Meeting House Museum which contains exhibits about religious life in early Utah settlements such as Park City, Sandy Valley and Cedar City.

One of the earliest rifle scopes was an animal eye glass or apsis, made by various manufacturers in ancient Greece and Rome. Rifle Apsis were used to view targets at long range using a cross-hairs sight system on top of the barrel which allowed for more accurate fire as well as better accuracy when shooting from cover. The first rifles with adjustable optics were made in 1836 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte, who developed what is now known as the Conte Rifle Scope. This design featured two objectives that could be adjusted independently to adjust magnification for target practice or battlefield use. In 1871, John Browning patented his first telescopic rifle scope and it soon became popular among hunters and competitors around the world. The Browning Rifle Scope was one of the most advanced rifle scopes available at that time and allowed shooters to see much farther than ever before while still being able to maintain good accuracy while hunting large game animals or traveling long distances. Some of the earliest rifle scopes offered variable objective lens systems allowing shooters to choose between different magnification levels depending on their desired sighting experience; these days this type of rifle scope is often referred to as a bipod mount scope because it can be attached directly onto a soldier’s tripod or other support device
One of the first rifle scopes was developed by a British company in 1824. This scope used a cylindrical lens with an elliptical mount to provide magnification for rifles. The scope was known as the Royal Rifle Corps Scope and it was designed for use with small-barreled rifles. In 1827, another British company, Wilkinson & Sons, introduced a rifle scope that utilized a convex mirror to provide magnification for medium-sized firearms. Riverton is an unincorporated community in Wasatch County, Utah, United States. It lies on the Snake River at its confluence with the Grande Riviera. The community was founded by Mormon pioneers in 1847 and named for John Rector, a settler in what is now Weber County. The community had a population of 509 as of the 2010 census. Riverton is located along I-15 between Salt Lake City and Provo, close to Farmington Hills, Michigan and Highland Park, Illinois. The nearest city or county seat is Ogden to the south-west.
The first known European to visit the area now called Utah was Juan Diego, who sighted the Promontory in 1540. The Spanish claimed what is today Utah for Spain in 1793 and built Fort Laramie on the Mesa Verde Mountains. In 1846, as part of Mexican–American War, General Brigham Young led a Mormon Battalion through territory now occupied by Wyoming and Colorado to fight against Mexico at Bannockburn. After routing Mexican forces at the Battle of Salt Lake City, Young declared Utah Territory on 6 December 1847. The new government organized a series of elections to determine its membership in the United States and appointed James K. Polk as its first president. On 1 January 1850, Brigham Young announced his candidacy for Ulysses S. Grant's Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library and Museum building in downtown Salt Lake City became known as "Brigham Young University."
