Riverton is a small town in Utah, located near the Wasatch Mountains. The population of Riverton was 1,596 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Provo-Orem metropolitan area. The first permanent settlers in what is now Riverton were Mormon pioneers who arrived in 1847. They built a log cabin on the east bank of the Jordan River and named it riverton after their home town in England. The first post office was established at riverton in 1850, and the first school was opened in 1852. In 1869, the community became an incorporated village with a government and schools system that still remains today. In 1900, some residents of nearby Ogden founded a non-profit agricultural academy to teach children about agriculture from an early age. That same year, Riverton was selected as one of four townships within Provo County to receive city services from Provo Municipal Center (PMC). By 1925, PMC had moved all City Services to downtown Provo and renamed it "Providence Plaza". In 1951, Providence Plaza became PROVO Mayor's Office Building when Mayor Harry Bancroft moved his office there from his old home on Main Street. However, by 1974 King George VI decided that PROVO should become its own city and Soquel took over mayoral duties fromPROVO MOBility CENTER until 1978 when CITY SERVICES returned back to downtown PROVO under new management name "Providence Plaza" again until 1987 when PROVO CITYHALL took over management then until 2001 when provoMunicipal center renamed itself "PROVIDENCE PLAZA" once again making this our present day name but we would like to continue using provoMunicipal center name because it is nearer to our hearts than any other names so far

Riverton is a town in Carbon County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. Riverton is located on the southern edge of the Bears Ears National Monument. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The first settler to arrive in what is now Riverton was George Waddell in 1847. He built a cabin on the Arkansas River and named it after his home state of Illinois. In 1850, another pioneer, David Hales, arrived and founded a post office in what is today Riverton. By 1860, there were nine settlements in Carbon County with a total population of 133 individuals. In 1861, Brigham Young appointed John Davenport as the first Territorial Commissioner for Utah Territory. Davenport traveled to many towns and villages throughout eastern Utah to collect taxes and learn about their cultures and needs before making recommendations to Young regarding how best to administer the new territory. On July 24thof that year, Davenport's wagon train stopped at what is now Riverton for supplies (the only such stop during his travels). After restocking at Cedar City he continued on his way but was met by militia forces who drove him off the trail near present-day Echo Valley Reservoir approximately 25 miles east of present-day Riverton. After this event local settlers began calling themselves "Davenport's Rangers" because of their leader's experience and fortitude against military forces which had recently invaded their region from Arizona Territory
In 1847, the Latter-day Saints discovered a large body of water in what is now Riverton, Utah. At first they thought it was a mirage and left for home, but when they returned the next day, they found that the water was real. They named the river after Pahoon (Riverton) in ancient Israel because of this discovery.
