Riverton is a small town in Utah, located on the banks of the Red River. The population was 1,503 at the 2010 census. It is part of Price County. The first human beings to live in what is today Riverton were Native American traders and travelers who journeyed through the area in search of new land to settle. In 1847, pioneers discovered gold in what is now eastern Price County and decided to come up with a name for their new settlement: "Riverton." The name stuck and has been used ever since by local residents. In 1863, Mormons started arriving in Riverton fromenting towns along the Colorado River. By 1870, there were over 200 Mormons living in Riverton. In 1875, Brigham Young ordered all Mormon settlers out of Utah because he felt they were not following Jesus Christ's teachings closely enough. Many people left Riverton for various reasons; some simply did not like living under Mormon rule while others decided that being under Mormon control was too hard and uncomfortable. However, many people continued to live in Riverton until it was abandoned by the Mormons around 1915-16 due to World War I efforts to expel them from their homes east of Ogden City (now known as Weber County). The town had a post office from 1865 until 1907; it then moved to Logan where it continued operating until 1951. During this time, riverboats ran between Logan andrivertown providing transportation goods and passengers up and down the Red River between these two points. A bridge was built overtheRedRiverin 1911 which made getting into or out of town much easier than it had been before; however, this bridge also caused problems as cars could drive up onto its deck without getting off so that traffic would backed up against buildings on both sides of thebridge! Today only one side remains open for vehicular traffic while pedestrians can cross onlyon one side! In 1924-25 an electric streetcar service began running between Logan andrivertown using horse power but this service ended after just two months due To low ridership (approximately 10 passengers per day) compared to other bus services available at that time withinPrice County
The Riverton area was first settled by the Fremont people in the late 1800s. The area was originally called Bullfrog, and Gold Rush era residents renamed it after John C. Rivers, a U.S. senator from Utah who helped promote the region’s development. Riverton became a small town in 1907 when it was annexed by Ogden. In 1911, Riverton incorporated as a city and became one of the fastest-growing cities in Utah during the 1920s and 1930s. During World War II, Riverton played an important role in the war effort as it served as a munitions depot and production center for military ammunition.
