Riverton, Utah is a town in Carbon County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,888 at the 2010 census. Riverton is located on the Wasatch Front and is bordered by Cedar City to the east, Ogden to the north, and Price to the west. The first residents of Riverton were Mormon pioneers who arrived in 1847. In 1861, Riverton became part of Carbon County when it was organized from parts of Logan County and Weber County. It was named for John Rilton, a settler who had come to Utah with Brigham Young in 1847. A post office called Riverton was established in 1857, and remained in operation until 1907. In 1872, Moroni Lassen came to Riverton and began developing area around present-day downtown into what is now known as Lassen Park. He built a sawmill there which remains operational today. In 1896–97, Moroni Fenton built a home at 9 N Main Street which remain standing today as one of the earliest examples of Bungalow architecture in Utah. The townspeople purchased it from Fenton for $1 million soon after its construction. In 1912–13, Leo Buehler bought land northeast of downtown from Jens Sorenson for $10 per acre (2 hectares). He began construction on what would eventually become Buehler Park – an all-weather sports arena that remains one of the most popular tourist attractions in Riverton today. The park also served as home to many local businesses during its early years including Butchers Coffee House & Bakery (now closed), Wagon Wheel Tavern & Cafe (closed), and Mr.'s Pizza Place (closed). In 1924–25 Jack McLarty constructed a dam across Clear Fork Canyon just upstream from where Buehler Park now stands; this provided irrigation water for much of central Carbon County while also creating Lake Powell approximately downstream from where he built it which later became Lake Mead
Riverton was founded in the 1860s on the Weber River by Mormon pioneers. The town grew rapidly, and in 1875 it became the county seat of Utah. During World War II, Riverton was a key center for military production.
