Pleasant Grove, Utah is a city in Kane County, Utah, United States. The population was 7,699 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kane County. The name "Pleasant Grove" was given to the town by Brigham Young after he and his family were persecuted and driven out of Nauvoo, Illinois. Pleasant Grove is located on the east side of Kane County and is bordered on the south by Johnson City and on the north by Provo. The first permanent settler in what would become Pleasant Grove was Levi Holland in 1847. He built a cabin onuckle Creek which he named Holland Park. On July 24, 1850, Mormon pioneers John Dyer and James Hammons founded a ranch called Cedar Mesa about two miles southwest of Holland Park on land that had been donated by local rancher George Hearn. Cedar Mesa became known as Pleasant Grove because it was one of several locations from which Mormons were exile subjected to forced labor during polygamy's Restoration campaign (1849-50). The first school in Pleasant Grove opened in 1852 under teacher Lorenzo Snow with 25 students. In 1865, when Pleasant Grove incorporated as a city, it had a population of 375 people; however, within 10 years that number had increased to 1,500 people due to new businesses opening up such as tobacco farms and grocery stores along with more housing developments being constructed such as The Oaks subdivision which encompassed most of what now makes up downtown Pleasant Grove. This growth also led to an increase in business collisions between cars driving down Main Street (then Broad Street) towards downtown or vice versa – both drivers were often unaware they were passing through one of their own cities until they hit something Elsewhere while en route back home! During World War II many businesses closed including but not limited to: JBL Radio (a major player then), Consolidated Oil Refining Company (renamed KSLA Radio), Anheuser-Busch beer company (becoming Busch Brewery) Masonic Temple No 2 where Reed Smoot helped found BYU before joining the US Army during World War II serving for over three years until 1946; all these closures later permitted Fillmore's restaurant across from LDS Church Tabernacle complex onto University Boulevard near Cottonwood Canyon Parkway for nearly 50 years! In 1961 Mayor Harry Kimball appointed Orson Scott Cardensoy member of the newly formed Municipal Advisory Committee composed largely of businessmen who advised City Councilors on matters relating to finance and administration; thereafter Cardensoy chaired this committee which helped steer City Hall towards modern day practices including zoning changes making possible development adjacent to existing neighborhoods while maintaining quality architecture including demolition/construction throughout some longstanding public buildings thereby creating much desired open spaces within neighborhoods despite high crime rates at that time! cardensoy also spearheaded efforts whereby construction began immediately beneath main street just eastward thereof containing an enclosed mall containing restaurantsavisibly 9 large supermarkets along with numerous other small businesses; today this area still remains one highly visible feature prominently displayed atop Main Street just eastward thereof becoming known simply as "Cardensoy Place." In 1984 Mayor David Hennelly designated monthlong celebration following General Conference entitled “Utah’s First Christmas” inside LDS Church Temple where food was available free for everyone during Christmas Eve services only!! subsequent events included parade featuring floats decorated with holiday cheer leading into temple plaza overlooking mainstreet
