Pleasant Grove, Utah is a small town in the Sawtooth County area of Utah. It was founded in 1849 by Captain James W. Harmon and his family. The Harmon family operated a store and post office there until 1875. They then built a log cabin on the site that still stands today. Pleasant Grove became an incorporated community in 1916. In 1980, the population of Pleasant Grove was 1,972. The Harmony family were some of the early settlers in what is now Pleasant Grove. Captain James W., who had come over with his father, built a cabin on the property which still stands today as one of Utah's most iconic landmarks. He and his wife Lydia entertained many visitors throughout their life, hosting receptions for local dignitaries as well as giving away food to the needy during winter months. In 1849 they also took out a US$1,000 loan from their brother-in-law Brigham Young to purchase 500 acres (2 km²) of land east of present day Pleasant Grove and build a store and Post Office thereon - this building still stands today! The first mail carrier brought through Indian Territory arrived at this new location on December 2nd, 1850 - it was delayed due to snowmobilers being longer than expected! Captain James W.'s Store soon became one of the most popular places to buy groceries in centralUtah; it remained so until 1975 when retailing began nearby at what is now Kwik Fare convenience store! The original post office closed its doors on October 15th, 1912 after years serving Elmira (later Cedar City). A new post office opened in 1946 inside what is now Salt Lake City Municipal Airport - again serving Pleasant Grove residents! A few years ago we celebrated our 125th anniversary with special events like visiting our Pioneers Monument & Tour where we learned about pioneers such as Capt JW Harmon & His Wife Lyda & Their Children Emmett St George Harmon VP Businessman Milburn Reid Pioneer Trailer Park located just south east Of Our Current Location
