The first Pleasant Grove post office was established on October 11, 1859, by Elisha Harmon and Alfred Huffman. In 1875, Hyrum Smith and his family moved to Pleasant Grove from Springdale. In 1907, Pleasant Grove had a population of 350 people. Pleasant Grove became an incorporated town in 1961. The original plat for the town was done by Arthur Arents and it called "Saddleback" because of its location on Saddleback Creek near the now demolished Horsehoe Riding Ranch which once stood in present-day Pleasant Grove. In 1974, Pleasant Grove had an estimated population of 2,000 people when Provo Municipal Airport opened; however only 800 residents lived within reach of that airport at that time due to development around it such as Park Central Shopping Center and Interstate 25 motorway construction nearby. By 2000 there were only 400 residents living within 5 miles of Provo Municipal Airport while 8 miles away there were only 100 residents living within 10 miles of Provo Municipal Airport as a result of new housing developments such as Mormon Village and Green Valley Drive development adjacent to LDS Church property abutting I-15 freeway access southbound just outside Draper city limits; these developments caused major transportation challenges for those living close to I-15 without easy access to public transportation or points east for groceries or other essential services closeness airport made moot with current infrastructure Lack of affordable housing options available across large portions rimming downtown core led many parents choose instead to send their children further away from job opportunities
