Payson, Utah is a town in Davis County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,763 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The geographic feature that makes Payson unique is its high mountain range which forms the northeast corner of Davis County and continues into neighboring Weber County to form the Wasatch Front. Payson was founded by George Custer in 1868 as a farmstead on the ridge between Mount Evans and Mount Stansbury. After some initial growth due to goldmining activity in nearby Logan and Mill Valley, Payson began to grow rapidly when it became apparent that there was potential for farming here on higher ground than near populous areas such as Logan or Provo. Today's downtown area dates back to 1907 when two Methodist Episcopal Reverends donated land for what would become Payson's first store—a dry goods business called "The Gilded Cage" on First Street. That same year saw construction of the original courthouse—still standing today at Fourth and Bancroft Streets—and soon after other local businesses followed suit: a grocery store (1910), hotel (1911), post office (1912), hardware store (1914), cinema (1920), barber shop (1924) and more! In 1924 Brigham Young University arrived in town with three football teams from Provo; this new addition led to an ever-growing population of students who competed against each other for scarce real estate space on campus. By 1941 Payson had outgrown its small downtown core so much so that plans were made for a new shopping center across First Street from present-day Main Library; however, this development never came to fruition because of World War II restrictions on LDS university property!. During these years many young people left Payson for better opportunities outside of their hometown but some remain long timers like Retired Firefighter Jerry Green who has lived here since 1951! One particular landmark in town’s history happened during this time frame when developer Clarence Weisman purchased golf courses adjacent to his ranching operation called “The Hills” which eventually became known as Weisman Country Club! This decision allowed residents living near Interstate 15 access not just to play golf but also enjoy country living with all its amenities including restaurants, parks and beautiful scenery! It wasn't until 1978 that things started changing again when developer Jerald Sorenson attached himself as lead architect/builder on developing what would become one of America's most active outdoor recreation communities—Payson Place! Starting off with just 10 homes resulting in an array of different styles & sizes ranging from Tudor Revival styled cottages averaging $200/month all the way up through luxurious Ranch style homes with swimming pools costing upwards of $2 million apiece! In just over 25 years since then—-the community has exploded!! From 20 homes maximum per acre now down to 12…with plans currently underway for even more growth next door at Our Lady Of Peace Catholic Church!!! What began as little more than a single school house turned into one of Utah's largest housing developments complete with tennis courts, basketball court & playground……..today we have incredible levels OFResidentship———————-all while still maintaining our qualityof life values———————- unprecedented anywhere else inUtah

Payson and his brother Hyrum arrived from Illinois to map out what would become Sevier County., They laid out a village on the east bank of Cache River which they named Springdale after their home state of Missouri where they were born and raised.. After many years of growth as a small farming community with few businesses or other residents until 1935 when it became an incorporated city due to its large size by then it experienced one of its most significant growth spurts during World War II as more than 20% of the workforce served in the military either through enlistment or national service The economy slowly returned to normalcy following World War II but Growth has been steady over recent decades with modest job losses (.1%) caused primarily by replacement-level skills shortages across all industries that have arisen as result technological advancement including advances in information technology (IT).. For example: Nearly 60% (2/3) of all jobs now held are related directly to IT services; while manufacturing employment has declined precipitously (-50%), professional and support services (+30%). Most recently there has been marked influxes both domestically (10%) and internationally (20%) – attracted principally by low UAW labor costs relative to major global economies – creating some very promising new economic opportunities for local workers…. Overall nearly one-third (~380 employed individuals) currently identify themselves as “techies”….. In short even though there are now many challenges beyond those faced during historical recession times such as increased competition for limited resources due largely to globalization; nevertheless we continue seeing evidence throughout this area that people will always find ways to overcome them if given opportunity
