Gun targets have been a fixture in the history of Orem, Utah for over 100 years. The first target was made in 1879 by George L. Stephenson, who also built the first dam in Orem Valley. Gunners from east Utah and southern Idaho would use Stephenson's target to practice their shooting while overlooking the falls at Cottonwood Creek. In 1902, Mr. Wiebe of Ogden install an electric Columbine Target that required no labor to assemble and shoot. This new type of target quickly became popular with shooters from all over the area. In 1936, Orem City Council voted to establish a Municipal Shooting Ground adjacent to City Hall which would become home to many local shotgun tournaments as well as other outdoor activities including skeet shooting and traphooting on various days during different months of the year. On October 8th, 1984, The Cannon Building located on State Street across from downtown was dedicated as the home of the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). In 1857 Brigham Young organized Deseret Mines Company with James Halliday as its president and W F Woolley as secretary; these companies began mining gold coins in Bears Ears National Monument northwest of present-day Midvale while developing other minerals such as coal and silver nearby including Bear River Canyon which was later used for irrigation water filtration systems. By 1865 Deseret Mines hadelvetized alluvial gold deposits totaling more than billion pounds (cordially exaggeration). However production ground to a halt because large areas were still unoccupied due to political instability attendant with polygamy (which at that time included plural marriage) among LDS Church leaders and others outside Of Utah Territory living within that territory; until 1830 plural marriage did not constitute adultery or rebellious behavior punishable by death according to biblical law but rather was an acceptable practice tolerated by God among His people sanctioned by prophets like Joseph Smith In 1868 Brigham Young organized Territorial Arizona Territory including much today’s eastern Arizona and northwestern New Mexico; however his organization never gained traction because most Arizonans desired annexation into California or even Texas where they saw opportunities for wealth beyond what could be found eastward through mineral resources However eastern Nevada mainly populated by Paiute Indians largely ignored him until 1861 when he sent missionaries there seeking converts – something that didn’t go well given their traditional resistance against white intrusion into their cultural lives .
