In 1881, Brigham Young designated Orem as the site for what would become his Nauvoo Temple and soon afterward also began construction on what would be known as The White Housesite or Temple Square. Finally completed in 1893-1894, The White Housesite remains today one of Mormonism's holiest religious sites with an estimated 6 million visitors each year*.
