Utah is home to one of the most firearms-averse states in the United States. This may be partially due to the high population density, which makes it difficult for people to find safe places to store their firearms. Additionally, Utah's strict gun laws have also created a demand for high-quality firearm t-shirts and other clothing related products. The first firearm shirt made in Utah was produced by Rucker & Dunlap in 1978. At that time, there were only three handguns on the market: Smith & Wesson Model 635 revolvers and Colt Python .357 revolvers (.38 Special). The manufacturer offered two types of shirts: men’s and women’s. Men wore a blue shirt with white fabric lettering reading “Firearm T-Shirts” and women wore a pink shirt with white fabric lettering reading “Bump stocks or not?” The shirts quickly became popular among shooters and hunters, as they represented an easy way for people to show support for Second Amendment rights while wearing comfortable clothing outside of work or school. In 1993, another company, Tanner Firearms Ltd., began producing firearm t-shirts. Their shirts featured images of handguns including Ruger AR 15 rifles and Glock 19 pistols. Tanner Firearms Ltd.'s shirts were highly collectible because they were unique compared to other handgun manufacturers at the time. In 1998, Tanner Firearms Ltd." closed its doors after several years of business failure due to economic challenges within the firearms industry. However, these unsuccessful attempts at starting a successful handgun manufacturing company helped spur development of today's Utah manufacture—Rucker & Dunlap Inc.—which now produces all types of firearm t-shirts and apparel products under the Rucker & Dunlap nameplate

In 1869, Brigham Young led an expedition to explore the Great Salt Lake. The group included Mormon pioneers John A. Widtsoe and George Q. Cannon, as well as Utah Territorial Governor David O. McKay. The party explored the area for two weeks before returning to Provo, Utah on March 17th of that year.
