Ogden, Utah is a small town located in Southern Utah. The population was 1,851 as of the 2010 census. Ogden is part of the Logan–Salt Lake City metropolitan area and it is home to Brigham Young University (BYU), one of the largest universities in the United States. The city is also known for its annual Ogden Stampede which occurs in early July. The first Europeans to visit Ogden were missionaries led by George Smith who explored the area in 1847. In 1863, Mormon pioneers arrived and founded what would become BYU. The city was named after John Sowell, an apostle in THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS who served as a governor of Weber County, Utah from 1857-1859. In 1907, Brigham Young granted land to the town on what is now Second Avenue and First Street for use as an agricultural district. The name "Ogden" was chosen because it sounded like "Oregon". The population grew rapidly during World War II with women coming out of confinement into jobs in defense plants and munitions factories along with men being drafted into service. A large number of African Americans moved to Ogden during this time; some began their own churches while others worked odd jobs or took night classes to get ahead financially. When World War III started, many people left for safer areas but not all residents left abruptly; some stayed until they could get a job back at their old place or found new homes elsewhere within 10 miles of their old place without having to leave their children behind again. After 1965 when Salt Lake City became an independent city, much attention turned towards Ogden because it had been overlooked by developers during that time period when most towns were considered rural areas suitable only for housing developments rather than centers for cultural expression and business activity like Ogden had become over time due both to its central location within Logan County as well as its unique history which has made it popular among tourists and locals alike since becoming a center for music, art and education

Ogden, Utah is a city in Juab County, Utah, United States. The population was 21,814 at the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1847 by Captain John C. Fremont and his party as Fort George Washington on the east bank of the Jordan River opposite modern-day Salt Lake City. The site of Ogden had been occupied by Native American tribes for thousands of years before that. The Mormon pioneers arrived in 1847 and built a town around what is now downtown Ogden on land acquired from the local ranchers. In 1850, Brigham Young designated Ogden as the place where he would perform his first sermon to Mormons living in Nauvoo, Illinois. The early 19th century saw a number of important events take place in Ogden including construction of Stake Point–Hinckley on September 15, 1853 by George Atherton and Wilford Woodruff; First Presidency Meeting October 9–10; Battle of Cedar Hill October 25-27; Massacre of President Joseph Smith's Battalion at Carthage Jail November 11–12; LDS Church Building opening December 6, 1857 (the first religious building in America). The Battle of Cedar Hill effectively ended戦争 between armies from Nauvoo and Liberty Jail which led to Mormon settlement westward across Iowa Territory into Utah Territory with new settlements being established at Provo (1858), Logan (1859), Weber Valley (1861), Fillmore Heights (1862) and Cottonwood Canyon (1863). By 1865 all but one stake were discontinued with only 14 residents remaining in Ogden although many more moved westward into adjacent counties during this period including Millard Fillmore who served as Territorial Governor from 1865 until his death in 1888. In 1890s an industrial revolution took hold throughout much Western North America with railroadroads cutting off agricultural production so cities like Chicago became increasingly dependent on manufacturing while smaller towns lost their access to transportation which often led to decline or abandonment over time. This drove pressure onto communities like Ogden which were forced to compete against larger metropolitan areas for jobs and resources either through annexation or incorporation into larger municipalities becoming known as "bedroom communities." Despite efforts made by some mayors such as Mayor Harry Wilkinson during the 1990s to revitalize downtown Ogden through arts programming and infrastructure projects such as resurfacing streetscapes it has generally failed to operate beyond limited incubation periods due largely to budgetary constraints associated with changing demographics within the city limits while also experiencing significant gentrification rates since 2000 especially Downtown OGDEN has experienced an increase rate of twofold since 2000 making it one of most rapidly gentrifying neighborhoods within Salt Lake City metropolitan area
Ogden was founded in 1847 by John W. Ogden and his family. The city is named after John Ogden, a member of the LDS Church who donated land for the settlement. The first post office in Ogden opened in 1851. In 1901, Ogden became the county seat of Kane County, Utah.
