In Ogden, Utah, the first gun swivels were patented on October 2, 1876 by Arthur Pryor. They were designed to allow shotguns to be fired from a kneeling or sitting position. This was an important improvement over using rifles with stock riders that could not be fired while standing. The patent was later purchased by Wm. H. Winchester and used in their Model 1895 rifle.

Ogden, Utah is a city in Weber County, Utah, United States. The population was 20,812 at the 2010 census. Ogden is the second-largest city in Weber County and the largest city east of the Great Salt Lake. It is also one of two cities in Utah with an airport (the other being Provo). The city's history began when settlers arrived in 1847 on the site of present-day Ogden. The first post office was established in 1848, and by 1860 there were 10 settlements within Ogden limits. In 1861–62 Brigham Young sent Jedediah Smith to explore what lay west of Zion National Park; Smith reported that he had found "a fertile plain watered by numerous rivers" and that it would be possible to settle here. This location became known as Mormon City because Mormons who had emigrated from Nauvoo, Illinois Territory were already living there before they founded Brigham Young's new settlement. In 1870 Brigham Young decided to move the headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from Nauvoo to Salt Lake City so as not to conflict with local authorities over land grants given out by President James K. Polk during his presidency; Mormon City remained a part of Salt Lake City until 1890 when it became its own independent town charter under control of LDS leaders only. By 1890 most Mormons had departed for Dixie or elsewhere due to persecution from state officials following LDS polygamy arrests; however, some 1,500 Mormons still resided in Mormon City at the time it ceased operations as an incorporated town. In 1901 a railroad line was built through Ogden which led to increased development and growth within the city limits; today much evidence remains from earlier development periods throughout OGDEN'S CULTURE DISTRICT - including buildings dating back to 1847! ernest Wirth Museum (formerly called First Congregational) stands as one example – hosting both historical exhibits and cultural programming related thereto every day except Memorial Day! vernacular architecture may be observed throughout OGDEN TODAY WITH ITS SUSPENSE OF ORDER AND TIMELINESS MUCH LIKE THAT DESCRIBED BY FARMER DAVID HUGHES IN HIS 1886 BOOK "Utah: A Geological Sketch". Today's downtown core has been revamped several times since then thanks largely to monies raised by various event sponsorships - such as 2017 Annual Kidderminster Charity Ball which drew nearly 200 attendees Downtown - many descended upon our charming Farmers Market adjacent thereto for produce shopping!

Ogden, Utah is a city in Weber County, Utah, United States. The population was 15,521 at the 2010 census. Ogden was founded in 1847 by George W. Ogden and was named for General Kit Carson who had been its first postmaster. It became an incorporated town in 1903. The population of the city proper increased to 38,611 by 2010; it annexes parts of Stroudsburg and Pleasant Grove after those towns were merged into the city limits in 2000. The history of Ogden goes back to 1847 when George W. Ogden settled on land north of present-day Ogden City Limits on the banks of the Jordan River. He named his new settlement "Ogden" after General Kit Carson who had helped him out during the Mexican–American War (1846–48). George W. OgDEN also served as mayor and one of six trustees for Weber County from 1892 until he resigned effective January 1, 1912 due to health problems that included Bright's disease (a hereditary eye infection). In 1903, following annexation by Salt Lake City proper, the original townspeople petitioned for incorporation as a city with a population exceeding 30,000 people – but this request was rejected because Salt Lake City’s limit at that time was 25 square miles (79 km2). Nevertheless, as part of a larger effort to consolidate all Weber County municipalities into one entity under Mayor John Anderton’s leadership – dubbed “The Great Consolidation” – incorporation proceedings were finally granted on December 12th, 1903 without opposition from any local officials or citizens ! Since then, no major changes have occurred within the confines of OGDEN CITY LIMITS – notwithstandingpopulation growth rates which have consistently outstripped corresponding real estate prices throughout recent decades!!! Consequently - today - OGDEN continues to be an incredibly vibrant community with highly educated residents/workers/visitors! And don't forget our amazing firefighters who continue to put their lives on hold every day while responding to emergencies...
Ogden was founded in 1847 by John Wesley Ogden and his wife, Sarah. The town changed its name to Ogden in 1879 after the discovery of oil in Utah. The first oil well was drilled in Ogden on October 6, 1889. In 1907, the first electric power line arrived in Ogden. In 1911, the first water supply came to Ogden from Springdale.
