North Ogden, Utah is a city in the Ogden Valley of Utah. The population was 27,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. North Ogden is adjacent to Provo and Mormon Village. The land that makes up today's North Ogden was first settled by families in 1847. In 1878, Brigham Young made it his headquarters following his return from a mission to India and New Mexico. Pioneer John A. Widtsoe also lived in what is now North Ogden for a time before moving back to Provo in 1892. The community name originated with Captain George Herriman who surveyed the area for the US General Land Office during the late 1800s and early 1900s. He named one of two valleys he found "OgDEN" after President Brigham Young's father-in-law, John Dutton (1796-1875). In 1907, an irrigation district was organized around North Ogden; this led to increased agricultural production which helped support a growing city population. By 1920, when North Ogden attained city status, it had an estimated population of 3500 people living on over 38 acres (15 hectares). At its peak in 1970, the population of North Ogdens exceeded 6000 people with more than 190 businesses and services operating within its boundaries alone! Today’s growth has been paralleled by its creativity as well; new businesses have opened up throughout town offering unique experiences and products not available any otherplace else! Today’s economy revolves around healthcare providers such as Mercy Health Care System and Kaiser Permanente – as well as local manufacturers such as Bladesmith Tools Incorporated and SummitKnives Limited.
