North Ogden, Utah is a city in Davis County, Utah, United States. The population was 5,010 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Davis County. North Ogden is located in west-central Davis County on the Wasatch Front and has a total area of 26square miles (71 square kilometers). North Ogden's climate varies from hot and dry summers to mild winters with occasional rain events. The cityscape ranges from rolling farmland to hills covered in forests and parks. The first Europeans to visit what is now North Ogden were Mormon pioneers who journeyed through this part of Utah Territory in 1847. They named their new settlement after President Brigham Young's father Provo,Utah Territory leader at that time. After several years of development by local farmers and ranchers, a post office was established at North Ogden in October 1861. By 1870, however, only 20 people lived there; most had come from nearby Provo or Cedar City to join Mormon settlers moving westward during the Great Western Migration era. In 1847, the North Ogden Seminary was founded in North Ogden by Rev. Dr. George Gallup and his wife, Mrs. Sarah Jameson Gallup. The first classes were held in a small house on the east side of Main Street. A larger building was erected on the west side of Main Street in 1852 and became known as the schoolhouse. In 1861, a new brick building was dedicated to house the seminary’s library which had been built by Mr. John Winkeroth of Brigham City. In 1865, the seminary moved to its present location on State Street within sight of Fort Douglas where it remained until 1978 when it relocated to its current location on North Ogden Plaza adjacent to Utah Valley University
