North Ogden was founded in 1863 as a Mormon colony on the site of present-day North Ogden Village. It was named for James Ewing North and his brother Brigham Young North. In 1868, Brigham Young ordered all Mormons in Nauvoo to leave Illinois because he believed they would be persecuted there if they stayed. North Ogden remained a Mormon settlement until it was abandoned by the sect in 1901. After its abandonment, residents of North Ogden began to build their homes anew on land that had been used for grazing and agricultural purposes since 1861. The first post office opened in 1865, and the name change from "Nauvoo" to "North Ogden" in 1868 when Brigham Young ordered all Mormons living east of Deseret Mountains to move westward into what is now Davis County so that they could not be persecuted there by Joseph Smith's followers. In 1901, following the end of polygamy in America, many Nauvoo residents decided to abandon their settlements around Cedar Hill and Old Nineteenth Ward because those areas were no longer under Mormon control or jurisdiction. Some people who had remained behind continued farming and ranching until after World War II; others decided to build new homes within walking distance of their old ones or move away altogether due to changing social mores and technology across Great Britain during that time period (the Second World War). After 1945 many people returned home during the 1950s through 1960s as air travel became increasingly available throughout much of the world; however most people left again during 1970-1980 due largely to declining prices for housing relative to other countries at that time period (although some did stay during later years when housing prices rose again). Today's community contains several hundred structures built between 1865 and 1951 - including a number of early LDS temple buildings - as well as older residences dating back before pioneer days such as Fort Bridger which still stands today ().
