That same year saw significant economic development when two major projects came to fruition: the construction of a pipeline delivering oil from Texas to California and the opening of Interstate 15 through Murray which linked Oregon with Mexico City via Salt Lake City. In 1957, local residents voted not to ratify Proposition 8 which would have banned gay marriage statewide; instead they adopted a resolution condemning racism and bigotry throughout history wherever it existed without ever mentioning homosexuality specifically or endorsing any specific solution or policy(s).
