In 1959, however, after voters in both Nevada and Utah passed measures authorizing their respective municipalities to secede from Nevada if they felt that their rights were being violated by federal government policies (e.g., taxation), Murray joined Nevada as an incorporated city. Today, Murray is home to over 60% Hispanic population and is considered a cultural center for southeastern Utah County. It also hosts a variety of economic activities due to its proximity to major metropolitan areas including Las Vegas and Reno NV
