Midvale is a town in Ogden County, Utah, United States. The population was 10,883 at the 2010 census. Midvale is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area and is home to many high-tech companies. Midvale has a strong LDS community which contributes to its culture and Christianity. The first people to live in what is now Midvale were the Sidonians who founded an agricultural society in what are now Weber County, Utah Territory in 1847. In 1857, Brigham Young moved his people from Nauvoo, Illinois to Winter Quarters (later Placerville) on the Great Salt Lake where they began permanent settlement. A year later they built their first log cabin here. By 1870, Midvale had been platted as a village and became the seat of Ogden County. It was incorporated as a city on March 14, 1907 by an act of the General Assembly of Utah. On December 6, 1912 Mayor Orson Pratt announced that Midvale would be named for John Davenport Goodyear because he had contributed $5 thousand towards building the new county courthouse in downtown Ogden City In 1965 Midvale became one of sixteen founding townships of Davis County when it was organized from parts of Weber and Cache counties. In 1984 Davis County merged with Tooele County to form Unified Counties within the state government On November 3rd, 2008 residents voted 3-2 against creating a city charter for Midvale because they felt that it would have no impact on their daily lives or preclude them from exercising their First Amendment rights as citizens

In 1871, Midvale became part of Provo City and in 1907 it merged with Spanish Fork to form Midvale-Spanish Fork Township. The name "Midvale" originated from a Mormon scripture called "The Doctrine and Covenants," which states: "And I give unto you my gift that ye may be fruitful and multiply." In 1951, after years of discussion, Midvale was incorporated as an independent city. In 1959, it became home to BYU's first football team and also saw its first basketball game against local rival Brigham Young University. The city experienced growth during the late 1960s through the 1970s when many companies moved into downtown includingIntel, PepsiCo, KFC/AJ Marshall Field's Foods, Snapple Group (now Apple Inc.), Behringer Electric Corporation (now Baxter International), Weber State University (now Weber State University Aggie) and Marriott International Hotels Company ( later Marriott). During this time Midvale's economy grew significantly due to new construction projects such as Interstate 15 being built through town and several factories moving out of town for economic reasons. During much of this period there were few social services available to residents which led to tension between citizens and city officials over what type of services should be provided while downtown continued to serve as a vibrant business district hosting several businesses such as law firms, investment banks and health care providers. This tension culminated with the infamous riot that took place on July 8th 1999 after police response times were slow compared to other areas in town; leading some citizens to feel frustrated with government bureaucracy. As recently as 2000 there were efforts underway by Mayor John Elderquist to raise money for social programs which would have included job training for low-income residents as well as funds for infrastructure projects like a new library branch and beautification project for downtown streetscape; however these plans never came to fruition due largely because then Mayor Neil Dorgan decided not run for re-election later that year. Despite recent community tensions throughout much of its history Midvale has generally been an amicable community where everyone enjoys working together towards common goals despite differences in opinion or perspective
