Midvale is a town in Tooele County, Utah, United States. The population was 2,111 at the 2010 census. Midvale was founded in 1875 and named after the nearby Mount Midvale. It became a city in 1907 and was renamed Midvale City in 1963. It joined theSalt Lake City metropolitan area in 1992. Midvale is located on the Great Salt Lake near Provo. The first permanent settlers of what would become Midvale were seven men who left Independence, Missouri on April 14, 1875, to travel westward overland through what is now Utah Territory. They arrived at the confluence of the Beaver and Jordan rivers about 12 miles east of present-day Midvale on July 10th of that year. From this original group many other families followed over time until by 1915 there were over 50 residents living in what would become Midvale with an average of 3 children per family. The great majority were Mormon pioneers who had come from Nauvoo, Illinois during the American Civil War (1861-1865). One reason for early growth may have been access to water resources that could be used for irrigation or farming purposes as well as easy transportation via wagon road from Republican Valley along present-day Cedar Mesa east to Provo and west to Heber City; these wagon roads ran right through town center where goods were unloaded on arrival before being transported further north into outlying valleys and canyons by horse or ox teams across deep snow drifts coverd with spruce trees which provided insulation from summer weather when temperatures reached 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) or more! In 1907 efforts began by Mayor Wm Halsey to rename Midvale City due to its location within walking distance of then newly developed downtown Provo – both buildings having been built between 1906 and 1908 following passage of legislation authorizing cityhood within Tooele County’s borders. On March 1st 1907 voters approved a proposition submitted by Mayor Halsey creating a new borough within Tooele County -Midvale Borough - consisting of all but one block including downtown Provo itself – becoming one municipality with its own legislative body separate from Butte County mainland affairs! This initial effort proved successful as late 1909 saw voter approval for annexation by Butte County making it possible to name all wards except one “Midvalley” while keeping downtown Provo’s namesake alive! After years of wrangling businessmen established several grocery stores (Fridays Pioneer Store & Service Station; First National Bank; Super 8 Motel), two churches (First Baptist Church #1 & Second Baptist Church #2) services were held weekly at Park Meadows Cemetery beginning around 1912 before moving permanently inside Main Street Hall starting May 1913 serving as both meeting place for city council meetings as well public library since 1915 prior thereto!
