Midvale is a city in Utah, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. Midvale is located in South Jordan, Logan and Ogden counties. Midvale was founded in 1869 by wagon train settlers who were seeking to find a new home after moving from Nauvoo, Illinois. The city has been the home of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) for over seventy years. The first residents of what would become Midvale were pioneer traders and farmers from eastern Kentucky who followed the Mormon Battalion during the Mexican–American War in 1846. They named their new town after Meetinghouse Hill, which they saw as an ideal spot for a trading post because it had good soil and access to water resources. In 1868, Brigham Young called on his followers to migrate westward and establish a new LDS outpost on Cedar Mesa Creek where they now live. By 1870, about 200 people lived in Midvale with most of them being transient workers employed by local farmers or construction crews building LDS temples or other religious structures. In 1871, when Brigham Young announced that he would move the main body of his church’s missionaries eastward into Illinois due to political unrest within Mormonism, some midwesterners decided to follow him instead and founded what would become Midvale. Soonafter, goods Train #7 departed from Council Bluffs, Iowa en route to Salt Lake City carrying 600 pioneers bound for Utah Territory on July 24th,. At night on July 25th., just after reaching their destination near present-day St George Village (), all but onewagon train was lost when its driver became lost inside an inaccessible canyon (). Eventually learned the way out (), this wagon train set off along Waco Trail () until reaching Fort Bridger on August 16th (). From there they continued along the Sutter Mountains foothills until finally reaching Fort Douglas where they disembarked () on September 3rd (). On November 15th1872(), Brigham Young ordered all male Mormons under age 50 living north of Deseret Canyon to march southWARPATHSTo Ogden Valley () where they were expected to help build cotton plantations (). On arrival,, many found only barren hillsides while others experienced harsh weather conditions including snowdrifts that reached up to twenty feet high (). Despite these challenges,, many men worked hard paving roads and erecting buildings before being assigned specific tasks such as cultivating crops or working construction gangs that built churches and other physical installations.. Upon completion of these projects in early 1873,,,, approximately 1/3rd of all Mormons still resident in Utah had arrived at Ogden Valley .
