Logan, Utah is a city in Weber County, Utah, United States. The population was 18,582 at the 2010 census. Logan was founded in 1869 by James W. Logan and his family as a Mormon colony called Nauvoo. In 1902, the city was renamed after General George A. Logan (1846-1920), an American general who fought in World War I and II and is best known for leading U.S. forces into Baghdad during the Iraq War in 2003. Logan is located on the eastern edge of Weber County and bordered by Layton to the north, Cedar City to the east, Iron Mountain to the south, and Duchesne to the west. It occupies a natural crossroads that has helped it stay connected with its surrounding communities since its early days as a small town: The city limits include portions of Layton, Cedar City, Duchesne, Iron Mountain, Aspen Grove Heights and Green River Junction. The first Europeans to visit Logan were French traders working under Russian explorer Étienne de La Salle in 1795–96 when he traveled through this area on his way from Fort Bridger across Iowa Territory to present-day Salt Lake City; they named what today is called North Park after their location on North Cache Creek near present day North End (now South End).
