In 1865 they built a log cabin which remain standing today as part of Lodge #10 of The United Methodist Church in Logan. In 1911, Frank Mathers established a grocery store at 9th and South Streets in Logan after purchasing land from John Wittell for $1,000. He continued to operate it until his death in 1951. One of Mathers' sons operated it until 1984 before it closed down due to financial problems. In 1966, Jerald Fenton opened an outdoor clothes store at 12th Street and North Avenue in Logan which became one of Utah's most successful businesses for many years before closing down in 2002due to economic difficulties. The largest employer within Logan during its heyday was John Wittell's meatpacking company which employed over 200 people at its plant on East Main Street between 1903-1978 when it merged with Armoury Foods Incorporated becoming Wright-Patterson Meat Producers Incorporated After World War II local production shifted towards consumer goods such as furniture, appliances, fruits and vegetables while plants producing munitions produced jobs outside of town; however both industries have since closed or been converted into other uses such as Wedgewood Plastics Manufacturing Company located off I-15 just outside Provo that manufactures plastic products including water bottles and food containers) In recent years much attention has been given to reviving traditional livestock husbandry practices that have been abandoned or modernized near Cedar City where haystack barns provide housing for 400 head of mutton along with pastures suitable for haycrops used forage purposes only; although this effort has not yet borne fruit .
