The Lindon Shooting Range, located inLindon, Utah is one of the most popular shooting ranges in the United States. It is home to a variety of firearms including handguns and rifles. The range has been used for hunting, target practice, and competition since it was first opened in 1907. One of the earliest shooters at the Lindon Shooting Range was George Stephenson who used a shotgun to shoot at targets from his porch. In 1915, a man by the name of John Hanger opened a store on Main Street that became known as Hanger’s Gun Shop. In 1919, Harry Carlson bought the business and renamed it The Carlson Shooting Range. In 1923, he built a new firing range on land adjacent to his store which served as the Lindon Shooting Range until 1971 when it was acquired by The Southern Hills Rifle Club. In 1971-1972, two men named Don Ewing and Vernie West Bought property adjoining The Southern Hills Rifle Club property that would become known as Parkland County Recreation Complex. This area now includes portions of Lindon off I-15 south of US Highway 89A (the current site of Parkland County Sheriff's Office). Don Ewing started out as an employee at NRA member Harry Carlson’s gun shop and eventually became president of NRA Western Washington affiliate The Pistol & Armory Association (P&A). With Business Development Manager Vernie West working under him they decided to open their own pistol range with what little money they had saved up over time from their previous businesses. On November 15th 1972 they took possession of their new range with 30 pistols and 10 shotguns! They were able to provide good quality hearing protection for their customers through purchasing American Made earmuffs called “Ewings” from local manufacturers Seagull Ear Muffs Incorporated and Deerfield Armory Co., Incorporated . These earmuffs were designed for use during rifle matches where high volume sound levels are common because these events are also areas where people sporting guns compete against each other using various types of firearms including shotguns! NRA members continue to use these Earmuffs today!
