Lindon is a small town in Utah, United States. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. Lindon is located in Wasatch County on the eastern edge of the Great Salt Lake Basin. It is bordered by Davis County to the east and north, Cache Valley to the northeast, and Weber County to thewest. The first settlers in what became Lindon were farmers who arrived around 1847. A post office was established in 1852 and named after William H. Lindsey, a British-born settler who had come to America years earlier as a boy with his family. By 1860, there were about sixty residents in Lindon; it had a school and store that year. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Union forces burned down the store while citizens were inside; no one was killed or injured but many goods were lost or destroyed. In 1865, Brigham Young organized The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) inLindon and began moving members from Nauvoo into what would becomeLindon Township. The LDS Church built its first church building here – called "The Temple" – on July 24th of that year. By 1870 there were more than 500 Mormons living in Lindon; it had two schools and three churches (the first LDS church building burned down in 1872). By 1907 Lindon had grown large enough for a post office and several businesses: an ice cream parlor (1907), hardware store (1908), bakery (1900), grocery store (1910), livery stable (1912), blacksmith shop(1920s) along with dozens of homes - most of them single family residences interspersed among apartment buildings until 1960 when all structures within one block beginning at 10th Street were razed for development known as "The Town Center". From 1925 through 1954 there was also an airplane hangar which served as an airstrip for local pilots used by both Mormon missionaries as well as general aviation interests such as Eastern Airlines until it closed due to conversion into apartments following World War II . A new shopping center opened on May 5th 1968 adjacent to Fairview Village surrounded by high rises housing over 400 units including 20 condos pentagon shaped buildings originally designed by architect Richard Meier which are now home to LDSChurch headquarters
