Lindon, Utah is a town in Wasatch County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. Lindon is located on the eastern edge of the Salt Lake Valley and extends into Kane County to the east. The name "Lindon" may derive from an early Mormon pioneer named John Lindon and his wife Hannah (née French). The couple's wagon train stopped at this location on their way from Nauvoo to Winter Quarters in 1847. After being repelled by Native Americans west of what is now Park City, they built a cabin here in 1849. In 1857, Brigham Young called the town Lindon after his father-in-law Fayette Blair who had settled there with his family two years earlier. In 1896, when it became apparent that polygamy would not be tolerated by LDS church leaders in Utah anymore, people of all denominations started moving to Lindon because of its good schools and ample opportunities for farming and ranching. Today, many residents are descendants of those first settlers or have been brought up here since childhood. Some important businesses in town include Post Office & Custom House (founded 1888), grain elevator (1892), coal mine (1913), chicken coop (1914), grocery store (founded 1912) and service station (1955). The services sector has kept alive much of the fabric ofLindon through its many employers over the years: First National Bank was founded 1912; Midvale Elementary School opened in 1957; and current day Main Street features several shops including a post office/grocery store/cafeteria/picnic area as well as three churches - one Roman Catholic and two Adventist - along with numerous other small businesses which contribute to life hereabouts.
