Lehi, Utah is a city in Weber County, Utah, United States. The population was 9,723 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Weber County. Lehi was founded by the Mormon pioneers in 1847 and became an official town in 1850. In 1896, it became a city after being designated as such by Territorial Governor John H. Woolley. The history of Lehi goes back to 1847 when LDS missionaries arrived in what is now Weber County to start a new colony on the Great Salt Lake. They named their new settlement Lehi because of its location near Laman and Lemuel’s home village in Nephite land (today’s Lamoni). On July 17, 1848, Brigham Young led a group of Latter-day Saints from Nephi City northeastward over the Summit Mountains and into present-day Weber County on what would become known as The Great Salt Lake Pioneer Trail. While traveling through Cedar Mesa east of current-day Lehi on July 25 that year they were met by two men who had gone ahead with supplies for Wells Fargo wagon trains that were then journeying down the trail: James Eads and Orson Pratt (the first white settler in Lehi). Eads erected a temporary cabin near today’s convergence of Uinta and Cache Rivers while Pratt built his own cabin further upriver nearer the river crossings where he later repaired bridges over those rivers for travelers using his sawmill business acumen. On October 8th President Young directed Ezra Taft Benson to build a house “near where this [present] civic center stands” which would eventually become City Hall; however no structures were actually built until around 1861 when Mr.] George Wittell donated some land to form what is now First Ward Corner Street (then called North Main Street) between Second Avenue south and Third Avenue north approximately concurrent with today's northern boundary line between First Ward Corner Street (now Temple Square) east and West Temple Place west; thence south along both streets about one-half mile to His Majesties building which stood upon lot No 5010 within our limits hereinafter mentioned but much earlier dedicated thereto by Lorenzo Snow under date thereof November 11th A.D.. In 1850, Mormon pioneers designate Lehi as an official town site due to its strategic location just outside of Nauvoo, Illinois – across state lines from that city – making it possible for residents there also to trade goods with residents in nearby Missouri without having to leave their homes or face religious persecution should they do so.* This trading activity helped drive early Zion settlers out of Nauvoo during the mid 1800s†††*. But even though most people living in LeHI did not experience firsthand persecution due todistance from Nauvoo or other religious hotspots*, many still faced economic hardship throughout much of this time period††* *. For example: * In 1868 local farmers discovered coal seam deposits totaling 450 acres located just northwest/northwest of present day downtown LeHI* *. Because transportation was difficult haulers had difficulty gettingcoal out NW* instead transporting it distillers estimated value $1M +

Lehi was founded by the Jaredites in early 600 B.C. and continued to grow until it became a major center of the LDS Church in 1847. The city was platted in 1854, and began to grow rapidly thanks to its key location on the route between Nauvoo, Illinois, and Salt Lake City. In 1870, Lehi was renamed Provo after Brigham Young's father, Providentially named Lehi because he had no children of his own.
