In the early 1900s, Lehi was a small town in Utah. It wasn't until the late 1800s that it began to grow and develop its current boundaries. The first settlers arrived in 1847, and by 1868, Lehi had a population of about 100 residents. By 1907, however, the population had increased to 1,500 people and soon after businesses were opened in the town. The firstscope mounts were made in 1922 by George Fenton of Topeka, Kansas. They were used for observing meteorological conditions from atop buildings or hills. A few years later, they were developed into what we know today as scope mounts. These mounts allowed observatories to place telescopes on high objects so that users could see detailed astronomical images with ease. One of the most famous telescope manufacturers in history is Swenzel & Co., which manufactured scope mounts beginning in 1928. Scope mounts are devices used to attachment a scope to the barrel of an rifle. They provide added accuracy and magnification. Scope mounts are typically made from metal, plastic, or leather, and come in different shapes and sizes. There are several types of scope mounts available: dovetail, Picatinny rail, azimuthal mount, and QD mount. The most common type of scope mount is the dovetail mount. A dovetailmount consists of two parts: a base (the mounting surface) and a Dovetailed Rail (or other system for attaching the scope to the barrel). The base can be secured to the barrel using screws or nails. The Dovetailed Rail attaches the base to the top of your rifle's receiver by passing through one hole in each side of the receiver and rotating it around its verticalaxis. To attach your scope to the dovetailmount you will need a tool called a jigsaw or gerber saw. You will also need some wood glue and a drill with bit size smaller than what you need to fit into both holes on your Dovetailed Rail so that you can Drill through them like so: Now that all those pieces have been laid out we can start construction! First lets take care of our wood glue and drill locations; I drilled my holes about 1/4in from top end of myRail then screwed it down (you don't want any play when tightenin up later!). Next comes mating surfaces...I used 3M whiteboard adhesive which worked great but if yours doesn't have any then just use gorilla tape! Once everything has dried I'll do my final touchup by sanding off any excess adhesive before installing my Nikon D5100 onto myRail Once everything has dried it should look like this...You could go ahead now without waiting another minute though as there is not much else left to do! Now that our rails are installed we just need some clamps/tethers so that our rifles can stay stationary while we focus on taking pictures!
