In 1863, Brigham Young reassigned David Whitmer to lead an expedition against Native Americans known collectively as "The Eleven". Whitmer's force encountered Indians near Cedar Mesa on December 14th leading to what would be one of history's greatest battles; however, despite significant losses both sides emerged victorious with no fatalities on either side but several horses killed or captured (the Battle of Cedar Mesa remains one of America's darkest moments). This event helped spur entrepreneurs such as George Fenton to come up with new strategies for Manifest Destiny - ambitious plans that would see Latter-day Saints colonize most of North America by means of railroad construction and land acquisition. Lehi experienced its heyday during World War II when over 100% military production took place within the city limits including munitions manufacturers Douglas Aircraft Company (DAC) and Bell Helicopter Corporation (BHC). After 1945 aluminum production dwindled due to competition from imported products but Lehi continued to showcase engineering feats throughout various branches of government including the development of Interstate 15 which passed through town shortly after its establishment as well asUtah Valley University’s world-renowned School Of Mines & Metallurgy which still occupies downtown facilities today

Lehi, Utah is a small town located in the Wasatch Mountains of western Utah. The population was 2,851 at the 2010 census. The town was founded on December 17, 1847 by Brigham Young and his followers as a wintering place for the Saints during their trek throughout Great Basin region. Lehi is named after LEMHI—a term used to describe an area lying east of the Jordan River that Mormon pioneers had discovered in early LDS history. Lemhi County was first formed in 1850 from parts of Weber County when Utah became a U.S. state. Lemhi County was renamed Provo County in 1911 following the cession of Provo and surrounding counties to Salt Lake City as part of the State of Deseret during World War I. Today, only a few scattered buildings remain from what once comprised Lemhi County’s largest city and cultural center: Provo (formerly Lemhi). In 1847, Brigham Young organized what would eventually become The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) at Winter Quarters near Topeka in central Kansas Territory. At first many members journeyed overland through Nebraska or Missouri to join LDS leader David Whitmer at Winter Quarters; however, Brigham Young ordered them travel south across Great Basin into what is now Utah Territory so they could build an outpost on this new location which they called “Lehi” after one of their favorite biblical prophets (1 Nephi 3:7-9). On December 17th, 1847 Brigham Young met with twelve men who were selected by him to lead his party on an extended wagon ride northward through snowdrifts and country that reached 100 miles before rejoining camp January 6th next year near present day Cedar City where they built two houses and began trading goods with local Native Americans for foodstuffs and horses needed for their arduous journey back home across Great Basin(Almighty God willing!). Soon residents here began referring to themselves as “Utah Pioneers” because they had led this most recent exodus from Nauvoo, Illinois just prior to Joseph Smith's baptism there on October 29th, 1844! The settlement grew rapidly due largely to its proximity to Cache Valley where farmers produced high quality corn, wheat, potatoes and other crops typical for such cold climates; furthermore gold prospectors frequently visited LeHI looking for nuggets worth considerable sums when prices were good enough! By 1850 most residents lived outside the town limits within either Bears Ears National Monument or Cedar Mesa Micropolitan Statistical Area due largely to lack thereof education opportunities available within LeHI itself!!!Today much evidence remains extant revealing both religious beliefs practiced here long prior unto becoming Mormons including polygamy; temple worship completed early 1800s despite opposition by some church leaders; Kirtland Temple dedication complete Spring 1840 notwithstanding president Vanney's opposition until May 24th A resulting $1 million donation generated by Ensign Wightman & James Hyrum regarding public works promotion resultant in NBA basketball team name change back then known as "Deseret Hawks" ??? Finally significant contributions made here throughout various wars fought locally/global conflicts including WWII???
Lehi was founded in 1847 by George Smith and his brother Mormon pioneers. The town was named after Lehi, a Nephite king who had been martyred. After the United States acquired Utah from Mexico in 1848, much of Lehi's business district became part of Salt Lake City.
