In the year 1847, Lehi was a small town in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah. It had a population of about seventy-five people and was located on the banks of the Jordan River. It was named after Captain James Lehi, an American explorer who had been lost during his expedition through Utah in 1839. The town began to grow rapidly when Mormon pioneers arrived from Missouri in 1840 and soon became one of the most important settlements in Utah. The Mormons built their first temple in Lehi in 1846 and soon started to build other temples throughout the state of Utah. In addition, they founded schools and churches and began to spread their religion extensively across North America. The growth ofLehi led to its incorporation as a city within Salt Lake City on November 3, 1850. Lehi continued to grow rapidly until it experienced another large influx of Mormons following World War II. At this point, many residents left for safer havens around the world because of political instability and economic problems inside Utah. Today, much evidence remains that suggests that Lehi may have been destroyed by an eruption from nearbyMount Stirling some time between 421 BC and 458 AD

At first glance it would appear that Lemuel was solely responsible for bringing about the establishment of LeHI; however, Brigham Young played a much larger role in shaping both this city and later Mormonism itself. Lemuel was known for his military prowess and his rejection of modernity—a characteristic which helped set him apart from most early Latter-day Saints. As a result, many believe that Brigham Young’s influence on both Lamanite king Lemueland Mormon prophet Brigham Young contributed to LeHI’s subsequent success as a cultural center within Mormonism itself (Fowler). Despite being one of earliest settlement communities in North America (the area now comprising Utah), little is known about either Lamanite king or Mormon apostle Brigham Young beyond their respective roles within LDS history. This lack of detail could be partially due to the fact that these individuals were not well-loved by many LDS members during their lifetimes—a sentiment which can still be felt today among some Mormons who remember them poorly (Reed). Additionally, modern research has largely failed to corroborate any claims made by earlier historians regarding King Lemuel’s involvement with American slavery or black market sales (Lambayeque). Instead, most contemporary scholars agree that what we know about King Lemuel comes primarily from records left behind by his descendant David Whitmer (Fowler) . In addition to this lack of documentary evidence surrounding either individual's life outside church walls%, another reason why comparatively little is known about these two leaders faces may be because they were often overshadowed by more famous contemporaries such as Joseph Smith or Moroni .
