By 1850, over 50% of all LDS families lived here; within 10 years, this number had increased to 100%. In addition to its strong economy and cultural significance, Lehi has also been home to some of Utah's most famous citizens: Ezra Taft Benson (prime minister under president Harry S Truman); Hyrum Smith (founder of BYU); Spencer Wigglesworth (athletic coach at USC); Scott Peterson (Olympic gold medalist in track & field).Today, much like when it first came into being, LeHI remains an active community that continues To Serve Others mindset which instills values such as volunteerism and service leadership throughout its residents

In 1892, Lehi incorporated as a city, which helped make it more powerful within the LDS church. However, Lehi's fortunes declined after World War I and 1920s. In 1932, it merged with nearby Provo to form Provo-Lehi City. Despite this decline, Lehi is still known for its architecture and history.

The site of Lehi was chosen because it had high water resources and its location close to farms and irrigated land would make it an ideal city for trade. The city grew rapidly, and by 1860 it had over 100 residents. In 1865, Brigham Young decided on a new capital, Salt Lake City, which would be the center of LDS missionary work in the Western United States. The settlement of Lehi quickly declined due to lack of water supply and population growth in Salt Lake City.
