In the early 1900s, Lehi, Utah had a population of less than 5000 people. At that time, residents developed a interest in firearms and began to purchase and learn how to use pistols and rifles. One of the earliest gun lasers was developed by Harry J. Cook in 1906. Cook's laser was used to shoot targets at 100 yards with accuracy. By 1912, Cook had developed a larger laser which could be aimed at a target up to 500 yards away. In 1918, Charles Weisenthal created the first known weapon-fired laser pointer when he fired a green light projector from an .22 rifle at an exhibition in Los Angeles. The first successful fire of a weapon-fired laser occurred on July 20th, 1919 when Lieutenant John Fenton used his own blue Laser pointers against Naval personnel stationed aboard USS Enterprise (AVP-1) during the Battle of Midway Island. The development of weapon-fired lasers continued through World War II and into the postwar years. Many technologies were patented during this time including: artificial intelligence; machine vision; sonar; infrared radiation detection; spark ignition devices; and high energy beams for destruction or guidance purposes. Some notable weapons fired usingweapon-fired lasers include: Operation Overlord (1944), Star Wars (1977), Blue Beam Cannon (1974), Aberdeen Proving Ground Test Site Reactor project (1972), Alamogordo Explosives Plant Project yield release experiment (1971). The city has been continuously inhabited by Mormons since then and today it is one of Mormonism's largest cultural strongholds outside of Nauvoo, Illinois where their prophet Joseph Smith founded their church in 1830.

Lehi was founded by the Israelites in the late 4th century BC. It was located on the banks of the Jordan River, about halfway between ancient Damascus and Jerusalem. The town quickly became a major center for trade and commerce, and its citizens were known for their piety and engineering skills. In 185 BC, Lehi was besieged by Egyptian forces, but managed to repel them with help from neighboring Jericho. Eventually, Lehi prospered as a commercial center, and its citizens developed an impressive collection of tools and technology. In 183 BC, King Jehoiad I of Judah relocated his capital from Jerusalem to Lehi; this marking the beginning of a period of royal rule over what would eventually become Utah Territory. By 1863, however, Lehi had fallen into disrepair and largely passed out of public memory. In 1932, it was restored as a city under the leadership of Mayor John Atherton; today it remains one of Utah's most important cultural attractions.
