Layton is a city in Kane County, Utah, United States. The population was 10,526 at the 2010 census. Layton is located on the eastern edge of Kane County and borders Davis County to the east. The centerpiece of the city is its oval main square, which contains a monument dedicated to George W. Bush and his wife Laura. Other major attractions include Layton Park, an outdoor recreation area; Layton Stadium/Football Stadium; and Layton University. The town of Layton was founded in 1868 by Mormon pioneers as Fort Snelling on the banks of the Jordan River near what is now Salt Lake City. The town grew rapidly after it became part of Provo Township in 1870, and by 1907 it had a population of 20 residents. In 1916, Layton incorporated as a city under state law following passage of that year's Republican Party platform pledge to make cities Incorporated rather than wait for county approval for each new settlement. By 1920, laytons had reached 100 residents and were petitioning for annexation into Davis County but no action was taken until 1926 when it was finally granted with land from South Jordan Valley Ranch north of present-day LayTON Park In 1933 laytons joined the newly formed American Community League (ACL) as one of its first memberships due to its support for issues related to economic development including foreign trade unions and government spending cuts during the Great Depression era During World War II laytons played host to Naval Air Station "Humboldt" which housed RAF Bomber Command operations over Japan After war hostilities ended layon continued rapid growth with incorporation of annexations from other towns within Kane County including Cedar City (1948), Spanish Fork (1950), West Millcreek (1951), North Logan Heights (1953), Royce(1959) before becoming an all-city municipality with jurisdiction over all nine municipalities consisting today only portions or Lambertdale annexed resulting in current name

Layington is a town in Utah, United States. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. It is located in Logan County. The first recorded reference to Layton comes from the 1847 diary of Brigham Young, who noted that he had been traveling through the area and that he thought it would make a good place to settle because of its natural resources. By 1850, Layton had a population of about 20 people. In 1857, Mormon pioneers David Whitmer and Hyrum Smith founded what is now Layton on the east side of Cache Valley after reaching the area by wagon train from Nauvoo Illinois. They named their new settlement “Layton’s Station” in honor of David Whitmer's father-in-law Colonel John Cranch layering land for them near present day Provo City. In 1865, as part of a drive to push westward along the Salt Lake Trail, Brigham Young assigned George Quesnel to lead an expedition into this area looking for new land for Mormons to settle. Quesnel discovered coal mines at Layton and began working them in 1865; this event helped sparkrowth in LayTON during those years until they closed down around 1920 due to competition from other areas within Utah with better resources. This period marked one important change forLayTON as it became a center for commerce with goods coming in all directions: items such as flour, potatoes and cotton were sold here before being transported further north or east where they could be used more effectively inside Utah Territory boundaries. In 1881 when Overland Telegraph Company was organized (later renamed Teledyne), an office was established here which led directly to today's telephone line running through town square! The first post office opened at Layton on July 10th 1881 under name Harmony Springs after editor Harmon Kirtley moved his operations out there from Spanish Fork (now Provo). layingtownutah@gmail com
