By 1870, Kaysville had a population of 1,200 and was considered one of the most important cotton-growing centers in America. Growth slowed during World War I as many men left for military service; however, post-war growth resumed with young people coming to work on farms and in local businesses. In 1960, when Interstate 80 was built through the area, Kaysville experienced its first postwar boom with new housing developments constructed along I-80 and new retail stores and restaurants opened downtown. Many residents kept their homes until recently when some were sold off to developers or converted into apartments or condos

Kaysville is a city in Weber County, Utah, United States. The population was 18,812 at the 2010 census. Kaysville was founded in 1847 by George A. Smith and named for his father-in-law, David Kays. It became an incorporated town in 1907. The first post office opened in 1847 and was called Wacoalaska; it changed its name to Kaysville in 1907. The first stores were built around the corner from each other on Main Street; when the business district grew, builders erected buildings farther away from the center of town to provide more space for their businesses. By 1912 there were 11 stores in Kaysville with a total of $5,000 in sales. A millinery store and a grocery store followed within two years of each other on Main Street between First and Second Streets. The first telephone line ran through Kaysville on Fourth Street between Republic Road and Center Street just north of downtown; service began on July 1, 1912. During World War II, small factories sprang up all over the area to make munitions while people worked outside during peacetime hours; however most businesses closed after the war ended without notice or compensation to their owners/employees who did not benefit from wartime production quotas or any new economic opportunities that arose as a result of military spending (Lippincott American Magazine). A major growth period occurred during the 1970s when developers turned Kaysville into one of Utah's "late night" shopping centers with large department stores such as Sears and JCPenney opening along with See's Candies which had been bought by Proctor & Gamble Corporation (P&G) less than two years earlier (Salt Lake Tribune). In 1978 P&G moved its corporate headquarters from Chicago to Salt Lake City after purchasing Kraft Foods Incorporated (Kraft). At this time P&G merged many related companies including those located in multiple states under one roof including those located in Utah which brought about increased competition for jobs within already tight labor markets throughout America as well as abroad (Salt Lake Tribune). In 2003 Gannett Company purchased Forstmann Littlefield which included much of what is now known as downtown Kaysville although some remaining structures still stand today such as the Bank of America building on Seventh Avenue across from Interstate 15th Street east of downtown that dates back to 1909 (Forstmann Littlefield website).
