Red Dot Sight history in Hurricane, Utah is a long and complex story. The city was founded in 1879 by Latter-day Saints who came from the state of Missouri. The city's first red dot sight, which was located on the north side of town, opened in 1904. By 1912, red dots had been established at all five intersections in the city. In 1918, a second red dot sight was built within walking distance of the first. A third red dot sight opened in 1924 and became operational until it was destroyed by fire in 1960. In 1978, a fourth red dot sight opened within walking distance of the first two and lasted until it was destroyed by fire as well. In 1984, an improved version of the Red Dot Sight system was installed within the city limits. This system featured brighter lights that allowed users to see better while wearing sunglasses or other protective gear. By 1992, all five intersection red dots were operational again; however, they were no longer used because they had become outdated and no longer produced accurate sights. However, one of these intersections remains operational today as part of a park dedicated to hurricane victims: Prospect Avenue & Main Street (formerly Commerce Boulevard). Hurricane, Utah is a small town in the Wasatch Front region of southwestern Utah. The population was 2,636 at the 2010 census. It is located on Uinta County's east side and straddles the Colorado River. The townsite was named for General James H. Kearny, who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as a general in the Union army during the American Civil War. Kearny's troops were stationed at Fort Bridger during what is now known as Hurricane Creek Massacre. The town was first settled by Mormons in 1847 and their settlement quickly became an agricultural center due to its location near water resources and abundant grazing land. In 1850, Hurricane Creek Dam was constructed to create flood control over the creek and surrounding area; this development allowed for rapid growth of the town. By 1870, Hurricane had reached its current size with several stores, a school, a post office, and two churches. In 1881, Hurricane experienced one of its most damaging hurricanes when Fortunato Ramirez hit it with such force that many homes were destroyed and entire streets obliterated; however, no life lost was reported as a result of Ramirez' storm). During World War II, Hurricane played an important role in supplying food to military camps located along I-80 which ran through central Utah; some 5 million pounds (2 million kg) of goods were delivered via Hurricanes between 1941 and 1945 alone! Today, hurricane remains an important commercial center for Uinta County thanks to its access to water supplies from both Lake Powell west of town and Isabella Reservoir east of town; howeverresidential development has become increasingly popular within hurricane's boundaries over recent years as cottage/condo developments have proliferated northward from Interstate 80 into nearby Carbon Hill Estates & Horseshoe Bend Estates areas northeast of town proper - further disrupting local rural lifestyles! Hurricane, Utah is a town in Carbon County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salt Lake City–Provo-Orem Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by Mormon pioneers in 1847 and named for Brigham Young's brother-in-law, Hurricane Hill (or Hurricane). The first post office was established in 1849 and was called "Pioneer Town." In 1862, Hurricane moved to its current location and changed its name to "Hurricane" after the devastating 1869 storm that caused extensive damage to the area. In 1907, hurricane destroyed much of Nauvoo which left many people homeless. As a result of this event and others which followed over the years such as droughts in 1912 and 1926, community members began organizing themselves into groups known as "Community Organizations" or COs to help support one another during hard times. One of these organizations was called the National Red Cross Committee for Utah Territory which helped provide relief supplies including food and water to local communities during both World War I and World War II. In 1957 they merged with other similar organizations located throughout America to become FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency). Hurricane has been through some serious weather events over time but always manages to remain resilient being one of only a few places around the world that have successfully rebuilt following a major storm like this. More recently it has also been home to some new development projects such as an agricultural research center known as The Grapes Of Wrath Research Station which will helpstudy how climate change may affect agriculture in future storms like this?
