Hurricane, Utah is a town located in Carbon County, Utah, United States. The population was 921 at the 2010 census. The name "Hurricane" comes from the Mexican word "huracán," meaning "a Category 5 or greater hurricane." Hurricane was first used in this area on November 15, 1908 when a tornado hit the town of Hurricane and killed six people. The most damaging event to occur in Hurricane occurred on September 17, 1913 when a devastating tornado struck the town killing twenty-one people and injuring over fifty-six. On July 22nd, 1928 local residents reported seeing an unidentified flying object over their heads that had caused widespread panic among them. This event became known as the "'Flying Object' Phenomenon." On December 1st of that year members of the community convened to hear about a possible tornado outbreak which never happened due to cooler weather conditions. In early 1951 Hurricane received its own Tornado Warning Center which helped improve warning accuracy for residents across Carbon County. In 1953 two tornadoes touched down in nearby Cedar City but no damage was done. Additionally during this time there were several other significant incidents such as: On May 10th 1950 three trailers were destroyed by wind gusts while parked on Main Street; On October 6th 1961 a home sustained severe damage after being struck by lightning; and finally on May 3rd 1966 another house sustained serious damage when it collapsed following strong winds caused by both hurricanes Debbie and Hugo just days prior!

Hurricane, Utah is a town in Weber County, Utah, United States. It was founded in 1868 and named for Isaac Newton hurricane. The first post office in Hurricane, Utah was established in 1870. The population of Hurricane, Utah was 1,816 at the 2010 census. The most significant event to occur in Hurricane, Utah occurred on November 17th 1895 when an EF2 tornado struck the community killing eighteen people and leaving ninety-six injured. This event is considered to be one of the deadliest tornadoes to ever strike the United States. Additionally, on October 26th 1960 a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck the town causing widespread damage and loss of life both inside and outside of the community.
The first hurricane to hit Utah was Hurricane Inez on August 25, 1892. The next year, a storm known as Hurricane Margaret created some damage in the state but no fatalities.
