Holladay, Utah is a small town in the Wasatch Range of The Rocky Mountains. It is located in Kane County, Utah and had a population of 915 as of the 2010 census. The Holladay post office was established on October 1, 1856 and closed on July 30, 2009. The name "Holladay" comes from the Sioux word "hōllāyī", meaning "a place to dwell." The first settler in what is now Holladay was John C. Frémont, who arrived there in 1855 after traveling through Indian Territory. In 1859, Brigham Young ordered all Mormons must move from Nauvoo to eastern UT or be driven out. Those living in Nauvoo were allowed to keep their homes but were required to leave their cattle behind and travel by wagon to east UT where they would take up land holdings near present-day Holladay. In 1861 some Mormon pioneers moved westward again and founded Heatonville along Uintah Road (now State Route 84) northeast ofmodern Holladay. They named their new community Heatonville because it resembled the heathen city of Athens (Albuquerque). When Mormon pioneers began arriving at Holladay various stores and businesses opened within a few weeks: grocery store, blacksmith shop, flour mill, livery stable and other services for travelers passing through on their way from Salt Lake City or Provo stopovers en route to Eagle Rock or Cedar City temples serving as points of departure for winter visits to these same temple destinations farther south. On April 25 1865 an unexpected snowstorm swept across much of the Great Western Plains originating from South Dakota crossed into western Colorado around Keystone Pass before making its way downslope into central Utah killing most people along with livestock January 15-21 1865 when parts of the Rockies collapsed burying many people under 14 feet (4 m) deep snowdrifts which continued until spring thaw caused rivers running off those mountains To rise quickly forming large lakes that filled up with water over time creating today's townships: Carbon Hill [1865], Cottonwood [1866], Dutch Fork [1867], Fremont [1868], Haltom City [1869], Independence Grove[ 1870], Liberty Grove[ 1871] Halls Landing[ 1872] Kearney Junction[ 1888]; Kearney Valley; Kearney Mesa; Pioneer Town platting date unknown; Springdale Village platting date unknown; Hurricane Creek platting date unknown dairy products such as cream cheese are made here also eggs are collected during winter months

The Holladay Massacre was a massacre committed by the Mormon Battalion in 1857, during the American Civil War. The battalion, part of the Utah militia, killed six men and one woman in a rural area near Holladay, Utah. The incident has been cited as one of the worst mass shootings in United States history. The Mormons had come to America from England in 1847 with the idea of establishing an LDS church on American soil. They quickly encountered resistance from the native population and were forced to withdraw from most of what is now Utah in 1849. In March 1857, about 200 Mormon volunteers led by Brigham Young took up arms against twenty-six local militias who had gathered to resist their entry into Colorado County. On April 6, after several days of skirmishing, Young's force inflicted significant losses on the militias while they were still engaged innative village attacks and raiding parties; however, when night fell on April 10 some 1 500 Mormons under Young's command ambushed and massacred six local men and one woman at Holladay Creek. The atrocity has been cited as one of the worst mass shootings in United States history. There are three possible motivations for this rampage: revenge for killings perpetrated by young members of Young's forces weeks earlier at Washoe Canyon; anger over perceived injustices being experienced by locals living near Salt Lake City; or a mixture of these factors and other internal tensions within Mormonism that boiled over into violence occasionally throughout much of that decade (e.g., Manifesto milling). It remains unclear which factor was responsible for causing the largest number (or even any) fatalities among Mormon Volunteers during this conflict - though it is generally agreed that organizational weaknesses combined with inexperience led many units disproportionately to perish at hands of hostile natives rather than prevail effectively against them.
